My disengagement from YouTube
Since censorship went into hyperdrive the last few days, I've made a conscious effort to wean myself off from YouTube. I like the technology, the seamless way that it works with suggesting videos, checking my subscriptions etc. But I absolutely abhor the censorship that is now crippleling a large section of the content creators, that will eventually cripple YouTube itself. And the shadow banning and tweaking of algorithms to peddle a political view can not be tolerated. It can not! I can no longer sit idle by, moan and complain and then continue to use the platform.
I've started to use other platforms like DTube (my first choice currently), BitChute and real.video. There are several others. These platforms have come a long way and will be a very important part of my internet use going forward. As of this writing I'm already down to 50% of my earlier YouTube usage, and shrinking fast. There are still a lot of content available on YouTube I can't find anywhere else.
So to content creators: please, please post your videos on other platforms besides YouTube. It will speed up YouTube losing it's dominant position, which will be a good thing for all of us.
For us to give a clear message that censorship is NOT OK, we need to disengage. We need to use other platforms. Now.
