Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States. He is buried at the Harry S Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence Missouri, beside his wife Bess.
The Museum was fascinating. I've been to a couple other presidential museums and my favorite story that I heard while visiting this one was that when taking office upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, one of the first things that President Truman did was go to the Post Office and buy a roll of stamps so that he could write letters home to his family and friends . He was told that there were plenty of stamps in the White House and he said he did not expect the taxpayers to pay for stamps on his personal letters. Stamps were .03 cents.
After visiting the museum I came across the book Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure by Matthew Algeo and I can highly recommend it. Just months after leaving office and buying a brand new 1953 Chrysler New Yorker, with no secret Service or any kind of security, snd no Presidential pension,....Harry envisioned himself as a private citizen again and wanted to go on a road trip in his new car with his wife. ! His mission was to enjoy an adventure on the road incognito, but the reality was much different!
He died in 1972 and his wife Bess died 10 years later.

Very interesting. I am a history buff and Truman had trouble filling the shoes of Roosevelt but I'm reminded by the gravestone he did serve two terms. I have been to Kansas City a lot and never visited his Presidential Library. I should.
Do go if you get the chance! It is a fascinating Museum. I always enjoyed the personal parts of the history more than I do the political parts but this Museum had plenty of both. Do you have a favorite rib place in Kansas City? I've only been to Arthur Bryant's.
Arthur Bryant's is the classic. We have some relatives there that always want Jack Stack's.
Now I am hungry for KansasCiry ribs!

Wow... What a good president, but this is the 1st time I hear his name. It's really nice of you to share the story, I really enjoy it when I can read some explanations about the photograph.
He was the US President who made the hard decision to use the atomic bomb in Japan and end WWll. I like having stories to go with photos, too.
Oh... So, he is the one, that atomic bomb also end the war between Indonesia and Japan. On one hand it's a big tragedy, on the other hand it's something that... Needed for the world peace.
Exactly. It seems so awful to me, but then so does any war.

They had so many chrysanthemums around the stone that it was hard to get close enough to get a good angle of what the words were!
Maybe that was the goal. I love chrysanthemums, can't wait for them to appear on the farmers market. We always buy and bring many to the cemetery to celebrate death day on the 1st November.
I like to get a big one to put at my front door along with a pumpkin or two. A good fall decoration. We don't have Day of the Dead traditions here like other cultures do. I guess Halloween has replaced the original intention of the day for us.
Some people are celebrating Halloween as well here but the two things are not the same, are very different. Halloween is a very commercialised, party like celebration. The other is about our loved ones buried. We go to the cemetery, bring flowers and candles, say a prayer, things like that.
Gypsys bring food and drink, music and they have a party, which in my opinion is totally inappropriate.
Each culture has its own way of celebrating.
