The yeti crab was discovered relatively recently, in 2005, in hydrothermal vents in unexplored seamounts at 2300 meters depth, near Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean, so it is believed that it lives in the fountains hydrothermal of said ocean.

This crab is a very distant relative of the hermit crabs that we usually find on beaches. The Yeti crab is quite large in relation to the usual crabs, as it usually measures about 15 centimeters long and is a yellowish-white color. Because its habitat is at depths where sunlight does not reach, the yeti crab is blind, since living in perpetual darkness does not need to see.

The main characteristic of this crab are its long and mostly hairy (hence its name) pincers. Upon discovering it, the hairs were examined, which are not really hairs in the strict sense of their meaning, but silky filaments called silks or mushrooms; Well, when they were put under the microscope they discovered that they were full of bacteria.
