Daily Celestial Challenge: Animal Kingdom - The Honey Bee
Good day fellow steemians, initially i was blank on what to write on today's #celestialchallenge initiated by @sirknight but thanks to an enlightening and really wonderful post by @bigpanda, i finally decided to write on the honey bee.
FUN FACTS ABOUT BEES
Every honey bee colony has a specific and unique scent. This is to allow for easy location.
Female bees are called 'worker bees', while male bees are called 'drones'.
Not all bees sting, only the worker bees do although the queen also possesses a 'stinger'.
Once a bee stings, it dies. Talk about a one time offer😢
Bees have a funny way of communicating with each other. They do this by 'dancing'. That's right, dancing.
Worker bees live for only about six weeks.
The drones do not do any work or even possess a stinger. All they do in mate.😒lazy bums.
During a collection journey(when they go around visiting flowers), a honey bee visits an average of about eighty flowers.
BEES VS WASPS
Bees are usually mistaken for wasps and vice versa. I remember once when i was a kid writing an entrance examination, as i was cracking my brains out, one unfortunate wasp (i thought it was a bee at that time) came to sting it. I jumped and ran out of the hall, i remember crying due to the embarassment. But that is a story for another day.
Now bees and wasps are completely different insects, some of the differences include but are not limited to;
Bees are far less violent than wasps.
For bees, their stingers are blunt and get stuck in their target hence they die after a single sting. While wasps have sharp and smooth stingers so they can easily sting a target severally.
Bees live in colonies, while wasps can choose to live in colonies or in solitude.
Wasps eat other insects and sometimes nectar, but bees feed on just nectar.
So basically, thats it. Hope the post was appreciated.
Awesome information here. Bees are much less violent than wasps. In fact, they are pretty docile for the most part. Thanks for such a great post.
