Calçots, tipical catalan dish
It's calçots time!
Here in Catalonia we have some special traditions, and eat is a good one! :D
In February usually starts the "calçots" period.
A "Calçot" is, simply, an onion that have been cultivated to be taller and thinner than a normal onion, once prepared, it is grilled on fire and then served with an almond-based sauce, it has more ingredients like tomato, garlic, olive oil and bread and depending the area, there are slight differences in the sauce
The party is called "Calçotada", there, people gather to prepare calçots, work together to prepare them, prepare the fire, cook them and then, eat them all together... it is usually end a bit dirty as you have to peel them to take out the burnt part of the calçots... but those are nice moments with friends and family.
The image was my first calçotada of this year...
