Cartesi is a Linux Infrastructure for scalable decentralized applications. It is a new operating system using the blockchain technology in the Linux infrastructure so that mainstream developers can easily develop DApps with the tools, libraries, and services they are already familiar with.

Linux is a tried-and-true, open-source operating system released in 1991 for computers, but its use has expanded to underpin systems for cars, phones, web servers and, more recently, networking gears. Nick Szabo and Satoshi Nakamoto are the names behind this breakthrough. Initially started by Szabo on his cryptographic research “Bit Gold”, precursor of “Bitcoin” which is created by Nakamoto.

A blockchain, originally block chain, is a growing list of records, called blocks, that are linked using cryptography. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data. By design, a blockchain is resistant to modification of the data.
