Is Using Car Clubs Cheaper Than Owning a Car?
Ever since my car broke down I have been saving money using a couple of different car clubs to get about. The two car clubs I’ve been using are Zipcar and Enterprise Car Club .
So, how do Car Clubs work?
Well, they are simply self-service vehicle hire cars and vans, that are available 24/7, making them more convenient and easier to get a car on short notice. The cars are either unlocked with an app on your phone or with your membership card. You can hire cars by the minute, hour or day. Both fuel and Insurance costs are covered.
Zipcar :
• Drive from £3/hour & £33/day.
• No mileage fees on most cars but mileage is limited per day unless you use a pay per mile car, where it costs 25p per mile.
• Get £30 to start you off by clicking here
• Basic plan is Free and Smart plan costs £6 per month and you get £6 of driving credits per month.
• Rates start at around £3.50 p/h or £25 per day
• A 21p per mile charge is added for cars and 27p for Vans
• You are allowed unlimited miles but every mile you do you pay for
• You can add a partner to your account for just £30 per year. They will be issued with their own membership card.
• No membership fee (except for under 22’s)
So Are They Cheaper Than Owning a Car?
Well, that depends on how much you use your car and what you use your car for. If you are covering a load of miles every single day it will probably not be worth it for you. However, if you are a casual driver and want the convenience and ease of not worrying about MOT, Road Tax, Insurance or even fuel then car clubs are for you!!
