A big risk Porsche took, and it paid off big time.steemCreated with Sketch.

Hello guys and welcome to mattsbeamer.

I remember back in the late 90s there were not many luxurious off-roaders apart from the P38 Range Rover and the cheaply build Mercedes ML. So when BMW joined the scene back in 1999 with their e53 x5, the world was shocked. The press loved the car, they were amazed with how well a SUV could handle back then. They said it was like driving an estate car but higher up. I would really love to drive one.

Anyway when BMW did so well with the suv market and the way people loved the way they drive, Porsche had to have a piece of the action. I know it sounds odd a manufacture being scared of this market today, especially as car companies like Rolls Royce, Bentley Aston Martin and Lamborghini are all at it now. The thing is a lot of the petrol heads say, they are diluting their brand.

In my opinion, it’s true, but they are their best sellers, and it’s these type of cars that, keep the super cars rolling out the factories and workers in jobs, so we can’t complain really.

Anyway, back in 2002 Porsche bought out their BMW X5 rival, which was called the cayenne. When it first came out I thought it wasn’t a good looking car at all, In fact I remember calling it ugly.

While this car was out, my father owned a hard top Mercedes Sl500, but it wasn’t the most reliable car on the road, so he traded it in for a Porsche Cayenne.

He choose to have a SUV to pull along his boats and his caravan.

Back to the Cayenne, that shared it chassis with the Audi Q7 and the VW Touareg. It was considered the sportiest varient out of the 3, unless you went for the RUF Version.

There were a few petrol variants and even a diesel.

Porsche did well fighting BMW, and this caused other manufactures to join in on the fun.

I’m sure that the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S was the quickest suv at one point.

My dads one was the smaller Cayenne S which had a 4.5 V8.

This car was so much fun to drive, it felt very sporty and kick down was Instant, and it NEVER ever went wrong.

I wanted to buy the car off my dad, but to import it to Russia would have cost $30k, but it did sell within a week of putting up for sale.

If you want to see my fathers old Cayenne, here is an in depth video. I hope you like it.
