Building a Supercar - Work in Progress 3, printed out.
Khufu was kind enough to print this out for me, see post, this was a spur of the moment thing and I never meant to 3D print it, so it was a little thin around the windows, but an awesome learning experience as now I know what works, and to actually get my hands on a print of the car is unbelievable.
I had to decide between high build primer and spray putty, the print was fairly rough out of the printer and had a few holes to fill so I thought spray putty would be the way to go.
I ended up doing 5 coats of the putty sanding in-between each coat and it came out ok, but I probably should have sanded the ridges down more to start with but its important to make mistakes or you don’t learn.
The wheels are just stand ins for the moment until I can get new ones printed.
This is the first part I have designed for the purpose of 3D printing, I still have a little bit to go on the tyre profile to make it look 100, I just did this by eye I need to measure the gaps and all that for the next one and the side walls need a little better profile, but it will do for this model.
It took forever to model (3 Days) as my little laptop can’t keep up with the pace, I have to draw a line wait for a bit and draw another line, if I need to make a slight change wait a little bit more, if you have ever done anything in 3D you will know how long it takes when you have a normal computer, this is getting a little frustrating with the lag times.
These wheels are from the 2010 lotus concept cars, I just feel completely in love with them so hopefully I can get them on to the finished product.
These images were taken by me I hold all copyrights.
Looking good mate!
Thanks!
Nice one and those 3d printers are cool what they can do.
