Wet morning

in #cars5 years ago (edited)

I generally dislike driving on the B-roads when the road surface is damp, much less if it is still raining because it would also mean visibility will be limited due to the rain and the fog. This morning was one of those days, but I went anyway because I promised my mates I'll be there.

It's hard to understate the hazards of driving fast on wet roads. It doesn't matter if your car is FWD, RWD or AWD or if it was wearing the best tire money can buy - the further you push, the more it becomes about your luck than your skills. All it takes is an unanticipated puddle of water to end your day real quick. As a matter of fact, this morning we encountered a crashed Subaru Impreza WRX ver.9, an AWD sports sedan designed with these kind of winding roads in mind.

While I still don't enjoy driving with compromised grip due to precipitation, I do find that if I pay attention, I learn more about how to balance my car to make use of what little traction available. That means less of carelessly chucking the car into corners, and adopting a more refined control of the brake, throttle and steering. Too much or too little input of each might make that corner my last.

It's not fun, but it is educational.

Seems like you're a Ford fiesta owner too. How's the dual-clutch?

So far the DCT is behaving itself...it has been almost 30k km since my last clutch replacement lol, touch wood so far so good :D
