2018 Detroit NAIAS (Jan 2018) Coverage – BMW 2019 Model i8 Roadster First Edition

The 2018 Detroit NAIAS provided the backdrop for many debut vehicles, and the BMW 2019 Model i8 Roadster First Edition is one such vehicle. 

The i8 Roadster First Edition is first of all a limited edition vehicle with a maximum production amount of 200-vehicles, and an associated suggested Retail Price of $173,095. Most notable is it’s radical rear styling. 

The i8 is powered by an electric motor and a twin-turbo three-cylinder engine with 143 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The three-cylinder engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor powers the front wheels, with the assistance from a two-speed automatic gearbox. 

This system allows the vehicle to travel up to 18 miles in all-electric mode. The vehicle has a limited top speed of 155 mph, ad the combined fuel economy is 70 MPGe according to BMW. 

The BMW i8 Roadster goes on sale this Spring.
