BMW i8 2019

It was in the Best of 2014 special when we first drove the BMW i8, a high-performance plug-in hybrid, which surprised us and did it again several years later during the BMW i Driving Experience 2018 held a couple of months ago in the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

With this in mind, we are happy to know that on the occasion of the launch of the renewed BMW i8 2019, the brand takes the opportunity to introduce the variant Roadster whose international debut took place during the Hall of Los Angeles 2017.

Regardless of whether it is the conventional or convertible model, the i8 is mounted on the LifeDrive architecture with an aluminum chassis and a carbon fiber reinforced polymer carrier (CFRP).

BMW eDrive technology includes a high-voltage battery with a cell capacity and energy content expanded significantly, and an electric motor that generates a peak power peak (12 hp more than its predecessor). The result is an increase in dynamic performance, and the range of operation using only the electric drive train.

The combustion engine only comes into play at high speeds or when the driver demands full power, and shuts down again more frequently when a measured driving style is maintained. Pressing the eDrive button allows you to travel up to 120 km / h in electric mode. The electric range of the new BMW i8 Coupe in the NEDC test cycle has increased to 55 kilometers.

On the other hand, when you unseat it, the wide awning of the BMW i8 Roadster retracts completely at the rear end. A unique mechanism that allows the soft awning to fold into a compact package and be stored in a perpendicular position, creating an additional storage space of around 100 liters behind the seats. The fully electric awning opens and closes very quietly in about 15 seconds, a process that can start while traveling up to 50 km / h. When unfolding the awning, the rear window rises about 30 millimeters in a comfortable position, where it serves as an air diffuser.

The BMW i8 2019 has a hybrid mechanic that now generates 374 hp (12 hp more than its predecessor) and 236 lb-ft of torque. The Roadster is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.6 seconds, while the Coupe is a little faster by achieving an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.4 seconds.
