Web star Carlos Desjardins faces 11 new charges for 4 new plaintiffs

YouTuber Carlos Desjardins now faces about 30 sexual charges for alleged crimes against 17 young complainants, while 11 new counts have been filed against him.

The one that counted by the thousand subscribers on the social networks saw his file become heavier at the courthouse of Quebec Friday.

The prosecution filed 11 additional charges against Desjardins involving four new complainants, three underage and one 18 year old.

He is accused of sexually assaulting the latter complainant in the winter of 2018 in Quebec City and of having assaulted her.

He is accused of luring the three other alleged victims of 13 and 14 years.

Charges of extortion, transmitting sexually explicit material to a person under 18, indecent communication, making available child pornography and producing child pornography were also filed against him on Friday.

The alleged crimes for these new counts were allegedly committed between October 2016 and August 1, 2018 in Quebec City, Lévis, Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury and Stanstead.

In total, Desjardins, 21, is now facing about 30 heads against 17 plaintiffs, almost all of them minors.

He has been detained since his arrest in September. In December, he was charged with luring, producing child pornography, extortion and sexual assault on three teenage girls.

Desjardins, wearing a white T-shirt, briefly appeared on Friday. Her lawyer Catherine Rigali-Boivin has requested the postponement of her bail hearing, which was due to take place on Friday, April 5 due to the new charges.

Crown Attorney Jennifer Landry told the judge that the files under review by the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) regarding the Desjardins investigation were completed.

The accused is prohibited from communicating with the complainants.

A publication ban on any information relating to the evidence in these files was issued by the judge at the request of the defense.

Prosecution in Trois-Rivières

At the same time, since 2016, the accused has faced a charge of distributing the image of a 19-year-old complainant without consent, at the Trois-Rivières courthouse.

The alleged acts allegedly occurred on November 6, 2016, in Trois-Rivières.

According to Le Nouvelliste reported last summer, Desjardins filmed the sexual intercourse of his alleged young victim with another man in a room of the Urbania hotel and broadcast them on Snapchat.

He must return to court on February 13 in Trois-Rivières on this file, at the orientation stage.
