caribArt Presents Salina Jane for Guyana
Many people are unaware that East Indian Indentured labourers were brought to the Caribbean to replace African slaves after Emancipation in 1838. The living conditions the Indian labourers lived under were worse than the ex slaves. This scheme was kargely unsuccessful and did not last very long however East Indians have made a significant cultural impact on Caribbean society especially in Guyana formerly Guiana and Trinidad and Tobago as these countries received the largest number of Indentured labourers.
