Worst advice given to you by baby boomers
Was at a company xmas party tonight and a high up manager who is about to retire told me how he spent 30+ years at the company, and great things are in store for people who stay in one place. Sure, maybe if they still offered pensions.
I'm under the impression that getting a new job every so often is the best way to get a raise - If you stay at a job too long, you're probably getting paid less than your market worth. People are delaying retirement, so it's hard to move up in one company (especially if it's a smaller one). The companies are taking the winning bet on the fact that most people own a house / don't want to up-root their life, so they'll just stay put for whatever they're paying you. Much like an ISP after your promotion is up - they jack up the price and bet that people are too lazy to switch providers.
