What are you planning for heating?
I have seen some people using the "earth heating" as they call it.
Some water and pipes placed deep into the ground and than guiding it trough the house
I'm planning on building some solar air heating units similar to this one:

Does this really work...during the winter?
If does, I'm so making this one...in all rooms of the house :-)
LOL! I think it could be a really good idea for extending my growing season but unfortunately it wouldn't be 100% adequate in getting me right through the harsh Canadian winters (Shorter days is a major factor limiting sunlight here.). But honestly! If I can even plant a couple weeks earlier... That's going to put me way ahead!
I can see this as a great way to save on heating during the colder months in your country! You should totally try this and let me know how it goes @lanmis! :)
I was looking for a house to buy for last few months and couldn't find anything that I like. That made me start thinking about making my own based on my desires.
And I'm now researching insulation. That's the most important thing for heating. If you got a great insulation even a candle can heat it.
For example, Norway. They got very good insulator and than heating is simple and cheap even with a small heater fan.
Yeah! Here in Canada we call these homes net neutral homes. They basically don't require any energy inputs. They are more expensive to build... But hey! I figure if you just make the space smaller (with more efficient) space management then load it with all the best in energy creation and conservation technology it's well worth the price tag over the long run.
That's what I plan to build, but the house will have to be bigger one. Like 8-10 rooms (medium size rooms).
But the good size is that I built 6 figure monthly profit online business, so I can finance it.
And my biggest requirement is that the house (in general) has to last for few generations (few renovations are OK), I don't want to waste tons of money on something that will stand for only 50 years and go down.
By the way, while we're still on the subject, do you know anything about
"Ytong"?
It's a new thing here and I really don't know anyone who used it for building. And I really have no idea how long the house made of it would last (how many years until requires renovation or crashing down)
I've never heard of Ytong as a building method. A quick search indicates its all about fabrication and construction using small cement blocks? Looks durable to me... But because I'm used to wood in construction it also looks like a cold industrial method to me.
I don't know either.
They say it is good choice (those who sell it :-) ) because it has a structure like a sponge. But I have my doubts.
Now I'm trying to find someone who has experience with it and see what is behind the ads...

Unfortunately it is a hard stuff to find a pot here. They are all plastic Chinese pots :-)
This is a fantastic idea! I actually have a candle set (and a woolen blanket) in my survival kit just in case I hit the ditch during the winter months. At -40 C you don't want to take any risks. Old man winter can be very unforgiving here in Canada!
I would be a star of Frozen 2 if I went out on -40C. Few years ago it was -20C in my country (which is not normal and very low for this region), I took my glove for a few seconds...it was a terrible idea...my hand and fingers started hurting almost right away. Putting a glove back on couldn't help it and heat it up again, so I had to walk in the nearest store and spend some time there until it got warm.
That was a period when most companies here got a time of because it was very cold.
Normally it goes to -10C for 1 month, other than that, during a winter, it's about 0C to 5C
Serbia sounds pretty nice actually weather considered! :P
At -10C at it's coldest is pretty decent. You could probably get away without hardly any heating as long as you insulated well enough during the build.
And that's the main problem we have...
Our houses don't have insulation at all (most of them)
Until like 100 years ago, most houses were made from adobe or mixture of clay and straw.
And that was a great thing for both summer and winter.
Cool in summer, warm in winter. Didn't require a lot of heating to warm up a place during the coldest winter nights.
But after that, we started building with blocks.
No insulation at all.
In other words, as soon as temperature goes under 15C, we have to turn on the heating. Only few years ago we realized we are wasting tons of energy this way.
Since than people started adding styrofoam on the outside of the house.
Nothing on the inside, no several layers of different materials and air...
Good in theory, bad in practice because most of them put a thin layer, like 2-3cm thick
It's just a waste of money and hopping that problem is solved when it isn't.
And that is the main reason I want to build my own house.
I wan't to build it in the style I want and insulation that will keep the inside of the house warm even if I use a small heating device to warm everything...
If anyone from colder countries (Canada, Norway etc.) came here and started a company for insulating the houses without any of it, he/she would be very rich fast.
PS: Don't get me started with the windows...it's terrible
Serbia is basically the perfect business place for people from "western" countries. We are almost blank canvas. There's a lot of room for improvement. And the one who brings certain improvement idea/product, has a clear market waiting just for him/her.
That's really interesting actually. Your right about Serbia being ripe for opportunities in the insulation upgrade business! I can't believe people are covering the outsides of their homes with Styrofoam sheeting... It seems like a cheap solution but honestly there are so many better ways to approach the problem. I guess people don't care about this because the current way of solving the problem is cheaper.
Building your own Adobe house would be a great idea! And based on the number of rooms you plan on building it's going to be quite a large project requiring a lot of capital... But I think if you continue down the crypto rabbit hole you'll be doing just fine in that regard. The main thing is going to be the continuation of learning. Life long learning is what I consider an investors main activity. That's why I have been enjoying Steemit actually! It's a chance to build a blog style business, network and meet great people, learn daily, and invest in the crypto space all at the same time! I would say that's a win-win-win-win! :D I'm sure you (and I!) will be earning those 6 figure incomes. It's only a matter of time.
So I don't know how many tree's you have access to in your country but building with whole logs can be VERY effective when it comes to holding heat in a structure. The log acts as a heat battery during the day and slowly releases the energy through out the colder nights. Combine this aspect to the log home with a energy efficient wood fireplace and those chilly nights end up being pretty cozy!
Like you... I dream of building my own home one day... So! Let's talk more about this as we go along. It will keep both of us motivated! Eye on the prize right!? :)
They use Styrofoam for several reasons, cheap is one of them.
Few more reasons are:
-They don't know any better way. If you do a survey and ask people to name insulation methods, 90% will name only 1...Styrofoam,
-Not many options to choose from, most of the stores (almost all of them) sell only that,
-Those "professionals" who are building, repairing houses, doing insulation works etc. know only 1 method...aka...cover the house with Styrofoam...and a lot of them do a bad job because they are not a real professionals in that area. They are just regular people who didn't had anything else to do and decided to start working that job
some of them know how to put glass wool but only under the roof...and that's all.
House builders in general (in Serbia and whole region around it) don't have a clue what are they doing. They know how to put block on top of another block and that's it. They don't know much/or anything on other methods and building materials.
That's why I said that if someone from a western country starts a business here, in the Balkan region, he'll become very rich super fast.
Actually, I don't invest in cryptocurrency. I don't even support current coins and the system they work by. From decentralization idea, it turned into a Ponzi scheme.

Mostly because in order for someone to have more money, others must have less...
We don't have a place where to buy logs. Maybe there could be found by special request, but that's very hard to do. Plus there's a lot of regulations that must be followed and permissions to gain...that makes it very hard.
I was thinking about starting a blog about that build your own house niche and I gave up on it very fast.
But I would be glad to keep in touch, networking and sharing experience on this subject. It may be very beneficial to both of us.
