Smoke and Mirrors: The Truth about CBD from a Cannabis Industry Insider
Smoke and Mirrors by Daniel de Sailles
CBD or cannabidiol is a compound found in certain types of cannabis and most prevalent in varieties of hemp. Because of the fact that it's non psychoactive it is being shipped all over the country legally thus it is seen as a huge opportunity to make money. There are companies selling CBD infused vape pens, water, tinctures, candy, and topical products online now, google it. But is CBD a miracle or a scam? Would you believe both at the same time?
CBD is great for certain ailments. If you suffer from spasms like from Parkinson's or other neurological disorders it can REALLY help you. If you suffer from seizures it will greatly reduce or eliminate them. If you suffer from inflammation like with rheumatoid arthritis it will help you. These benefits are huge and are saving lives and GREATLY improving the quality of life for thousands upon thousands of people. There is even anecdotal evidence that it can halt the spread of cancer and growth of tumors. However I am not a doctor or a research scientist so I will stop making claims. But google these claims, please. There are hundreds of articles in scientific journals about these benefits.
CBD is also NOT a lot of things. It's not a cure all. If you don't specifically have a need for it then you are not going to feel any affects at all from it. While having access to pure CBD for people that suffer from ailments in states with backwards policies regarding medical marijuana is better than none at all, CBD works better for patients when there is THC and terpenes from the plant present as well. It is not a replacement for THC or an alternative to THC.
So while I am not a scientist, I am a cannabis industry insider and have been for most of my life. And what I can do to help is to educate you as a patient/consumer on how to not get ripped off.
First of all manufacturers love to tell you how much CBD is in a product with milligrams. How many milligrams (mg) are in one gram? 1000. So if you see something that has 10mg of cbd per serving, that's not very much at all. In fact it's 1% of one gram. Wholesale CBD sells for $8-12 a gram. 300mg would be 30% of a gram in a whole bottle, etc. Keep this math in mind because, get this, CBD is completely benign and no matter how much of it you ingested it can't hurt you. In these small amounts the therapeutic affects can be negligible and can have no effect whatsoever leading a patient that COULD be helped to think that CBD does not help them.
I personally do not see how any of these products justify their high prices. 1/3 of a gram that cost you three bucks maybe in some coconut oil and it's worth $40 plus? How does that make sense at all?
Your best bet if you suffer from spasticity, seizures, or inflammation is to buy it in bulk and use it to make your own stuff. Period. "CBD Isolate" is over 99% pure CBD that has been extracted from hemp and is available online right now. Get that, as it will be much cheaper than buying ANY derivitive products made with it from any vendor. Make your own pills, candies, or simply add some to a smoothie every day. Add amounts that have actual therapeutic value.
If you or someone you love suffers from spasms, seizures, or inflammation you owe it to yourself to experiment with CBD. It can't hurt you. It is a completely benign substance with zero negative side effects that have been discovered so far. it does not get you high and if you don't need if you won't even feel it at all. Take all this into account when shopping for CBD. If you have any questions at all feel free to leave them in the comments and I'll respond to all of them.

You're Correct, CBD + THC Is Better
and I wish more people were aware of it.
A lot of folks are going to continue to get ripped off, as long as prohibition keeps them ignorant of the facts. There are a significant number of medicinal benefits from CBD, when used properly. Keep pushing!
Me too. CBD ONLY legislation is good, the ready availability of CBD is good, but it's only part of the puzzle. As I'm sure you know with Cannabis there is an entourage effect.
CBD only legislation restricts medicinal value. Yes, I'm aware of the entourage effect. :) I grow a cut of Canna-Tsu which is 20%+CBD, around 8-9%THC and the overall effect, with the full terpene profile, is enhanced memory, focus and mood control. ;)
I need a cut of that fam ;)
My CBD strain of all time is Tora Bora an almost perfect 1:1 CBD:THC strain cultivated by a shop in CO
I'm on the western slope now, made it back from the heat of southern Nevada. I'll be spreading this cut around, it'll be available again soon. :)
