Mexico Senate Approves Of Medical Cannabis Bill

in #cannabis8 years ago

The Senate in Mexico has just recently decided to approve of a bill this week that would allow for the use of cannabis for medical purposes. This approval, which passed by 98-7, adds to the growing acceptance in the country toward the legalization of cannabis.

The recently passed bill was part of a proposal that was introduced to Congress earlier this year by President Enrique Pena Nieto. The newly passed bill permits the use of products that contain THC and it also allows for the production of cannabis for scientific and medical purposes.

The war on drugs has cost countless innocent people their lives in Mexico and in other places around the world. The war has failed and continues to fail daily. A way to turn around and work toward improving matters would be to decriminalize drugs and that move in-turn will work to take away the power from the drug cartels who currently hold it.

The Supreme Court in Mexico just last year, granted at least four people the right to be able to grow their own cannabis for their own personal consumption. And this has added to the efforts that are seeking to pave a path in the country toward full acceptance of this plant.

Many criminologists, legal and law enforcement experts, and a number of others, have collectively asserted the notion that ending the failed war on drugs and moving to either legalize or decriminalize cannabis and other drugs, will work to decrease drug-related violence. It's estimated that at least over 100,000 people in Mexico have already lost their lives because of violence related to the drug cartels and ongoing war on drugs. And the approval of this bill further indicates that cannabis has widespread and growing support.
