Best (weed) dry herb Vaporizer for beginners
I still love the odd joint here and there to relax, but if you've not tried vaping your bud, you're missing out big time.
Whether you're using medical marijuana or just want to get stoned off your face I'd recommend giving one a try.
What's a dry herb Vaporizer?
Dry herb vaporizers can be split into 2 categories based on their method of transferring heat, if you weren't stoned during chemistry class then you may remember:
- Conduction: Conduction is heat transferring due to 2 objects touching.
- Convection: Convection needs a liquid or gas to move the heat.
Why choose a Conduction Vaporizer?
- Faster heating: Conduction vaporizers will normally heat up your herbs much faster, normally within 5 seconds compared to convection vapes taking up to 30 seconds. Meaning you'll be producing vapor much quicker.
- Better prices: Conduction vaporizers are normally cheaper due to the design not being as complicated.
- Easier to maintain: Due to them having a simplier design there's less parts making them much easier to clean.
Why choose a Convection Vaporizer?
- Lower chance of combustion: Convection vaporizers burn slower, your herbs won't combust like they would with a conduction vaporizer.
- Even heating and less wastage: Convection vaporizers will heat your herbs evenly by filling the chamber with hot air rather than just the herb closest to the heating element so you won't be wasting any of those precious herbs. This will also mean your vapor should be better tasting.
- Different temperature settings: Convection vaporizers allow you to set your preferred temperature. Getting dry hits? Just turn the temp down. Poor vapor production? Just turn it up.
Best conduction vaporizer?
The Pax 3
Pax labs has become known as the Apple of Vaporizers with their sleek and stylish designs.
The pax 3 comes with a oven that can be fully or half loaded. A full load will be around 0.3 grams of bud. You also have the option of vaping concentrate with this new model.
The pax 3 has a increased battery life compared to its earlier model with a 3500 mah battery.
One of the best new features of the Pax 3 is that it will quickly cool down when it senses your lips are off the mouthpiece so not so much bud is wasted in-between pulls.
0.3 grams of bud should last you around 15-20 minutes before the vapor production begins to decline and you'll need to use some fresh bud.
For a conduction vaporizer the Pax 3 produces a surprisingly good flavor and the vapor production is fairly high when using a higher temperature setting.
Unlike a lot of conduction vaporizers the Pax 3 has fully adjustable temperature control with a optional smartphone app available for ios or android. The pax has 5 different settings from 360F to 420F with an additional custom setting.
The pax 3 is a small design and fits easily in your hand, ideal for taking it out and about with you.
Best convection vaporizer?
The Firefly 2
As with the Pax 3, the Firefly 2 is a small design making it a portable vaporizer and ideal for taking out and about. It's simple to use coming with just 2 buttons and heats up pretty much instantly.
With it being a convection vaporizer the bud is only heating while you vape and your bud is heated evenly, no more wastage.
The bowl only holds a 5-6 hits but this should be more than enough to get you baked if vaping by yourself.
It produces dense clouds of clean vapor that are stronger than any joint hit.
The Firefly 2 comes complete with 2 batteries, battery run out? Just switch it over.
It comes complete with 6 different temperature settings, 5 for bud and 1 for concentrates.
As with the Pax 3 the Firefly 2 comes with an app allowing you to check your battery life and change the temperature settings.
Which one to choose?
I've always been a fan of convection vaporizers so for me the firefly 2 is a clear winner. It produces hits that a joint never could whilst feeling much cleaner. However the Pax 3 is slightly cheaper at around $275 compared to the firefly 2 at $325.

no magic flight launch box???
Is this a home made vape?
looks like it but no it was the most popular thing on reddit.com/r/trees for years!
i made one, but i didnt have the right iron core wire to conduct the heat to the screen....its a great design tho...now we have ecig style vapes that vape loose flower!
GOod value for money but wouldn't rate it as high as the pax, no temperature control etc

upvoted your comment from minnowsupport by mistake btw haha
I found portable vaporizers being not that good. When at home a standalone vape is probably better. The vulcano is kind of overpriced. If you want good quality for it's price get an arizer q extreme: https://amzn.to/2YYI0IO
