New Toy
I am honored to be apparently the first to use the #cameraporn tag here.
How do you guys like my new toy? This is a Nikon S2 with its tradional Nikkor 5cm f1.4.
I am having a blast burning rolls through it so far. Seems to have some shutter issues and I am losing a couple of frame per roll, like only half exposed if at all, I might have to look into that.
So far I am not especially impressed by the lens sharpness, but this might be me not being usd to the camera yet. It happens to exhibit some sort of soft glow when used wided open, which I had read about beforehand, but I am not sure I like it.
So yeah, I really love the ergonomics, but I have a few quirks to fix (shutter) or get used to (lens character).

have you tried this app? i use it to catch shutter problems in old film cameras
it's free for iPhone and also android if i am not wrong...it gives you a graph of the sound which will tell you a lot about what is going on...anyways that should be an easy fix for those guys at sukya or kantocanera.
btw, that strap looks amazing ...do you know the length? where did you get it? cheers
search for shutter-speed app...
Thanks dude! I will definitely give this app a try (it's not free but cheap enough, so I bought it already). The issue I am seeing is probably beyond a pure speed issue. I am also seeing a lot of pictures where the right side is under-exposed, like this one for example (sorry, boring picture ahead)
Regarding the strap, I don't remember the length but I bought it at deadcameras. I love their straps, I have 4 of them.
:-) didn't remember this was a pay app...i know it's a little too much but Kantocamera charged me 30,000yen for a complete overhaul of my Nikon f2 and it became like new!
Thanks for the info, good to know for reference. That might be more than I'm willing to spend on this camera. I don't know yet. I will be out of Japan for a couple of weeks anyway, so I will just keep shooting it as it is, and decide later. 90% of the shots are unaffected, so I guess things could be worse.
Cameraporn!? Hahah :) sure u are the first
Not the last I hope. I for one does enjoy a bit of camera porn once in a while.
Sweeeeeeet.<--------- That's me masking my severe jealousy ;) Looks like it's in minty shape! I believe the half exposed images are a shutter that's just slightly out of sync with the winder. If you can fire the shutter with the back open you'll be able to see the drag, totally fixable.
I know right :D I wouldn't say it's mint but very close. Privilege of living in Tokyo is the abundance of used camera shops where you can obviously manipulate the camera a little bit before wasting your money and soul.
I tried firing the shutter with the back open at all speeds many times, especially in bulb mode, and I didn't notice anything wrong with a naked eye (I might not know what I am looking for though). Also, most of the frames are OK, so I don't know. Maybe my finger had been touching the shutter dial (which rotates when you press the shutter) and hindered its movement.
Good luck, Japan is probably the best place to have it looked at too! Can we talk for a minute? If a certain Japanese resident came across Bronica lenses, in minty shape, there is a certain US resident who would gladly pay you a finders fee plus all expenses. This might just make Japanese residents feel better about posting camera porn and making others envious :)
While the Japanese residents might not be feeling bad whatsoever for making others envious, they would certainly be glad to help and would definitely be able to keep an eye open for Bronica lenses.
You just made my day.
And if you need anything from California i.e., lottery tickets, used rims for your car, or overpriced consumable goods, you just say the word!
Have fun with it! Please do post some photos from the camera!
Thanks! I did post a couple of pictures I took with it already, and I will post more for sure.
cool! surely, the tag #cameraporn is yours only :D
I'd love to see it bloom even just a little bit.
Beautiful camera. I haven't used one before, but that camera is on my want list.
I'm surprised no one has used that tag before!
I love the way it clicks. And the way it looks, which is why I couldn't resist using this tag to show it to the world and brag.
Definitely worth trying if you get the chance.
