Chapter 1: building a hot rod

Hey fellow steemers, I'm brand new here, and I'm going to be charting the progress of my old car project.

I'm excited! I just got it running and driving well, yesterday, so I FINALLY feel like I'm getting ahead.
But lets start from the beginning.

That's my truck. Its a 1974 Chevy shortbed, and before you say "that looks ready to go," let me stop you. I bought this 2 months ago 100 miles away, and I had to spend $200 towing it home. It had a FEW more issues than advertised, and I didn't want to work on it at the seller's house (and risk screwing something up).
I had to load it on a trailer in the middle of the night, but we made the journey home without breaking down, so that was a huge relief.

Why buy it? A few reasons.

1. It was cheap. When you can buy a non-runner, you're more likely to get it at a bargain.
2. I saw the value. I wasn't planning on buying one so soon, but I counted the upgrades and looked at what similar trucks cost.
3. I discovered that a good drivetrain is CHEAP. Parts (the ones I want) are really available right now.
4. It was intact. I made the mistake of picking "basket case" cars in the past, I failed to restore them, and i lost tons of money doing it.
