B&W Photo Contest ~ New Theme Announcement ~ Bridges

Sydney Harbour Bridge, Australia.

This is my first entry for this week´s theme on @daveks's B&W Photo Contest: Bridges.

I took this photo as we were leaving Sydney and about to start a 9 day cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. The distinctive shape of the Sydney Harbour Bridge stood out on the horizon behind the impressive wake of the ship.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is affectionately known as "The Coathanger" and was opened in 1932 after taking six years to build. Interesting facts: It is made of steel. It contains 6 million rivets which were hand driven. When painting is required the area covered is equivalent to 60 sports fields.

Walking it requires a certain amount of fitness. After a long walk to the base of the pylon, 200 steps are required to reach the top. It cost sixpence to cross it when it was first opened. It is free to walk across and there is a bicycle track for bike riders in a special lane. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the world's largest but not the longest. Total length = 1149 metres. Arch span = 503 metres. It consists of 8 vehicle lanes, two train lines, a footpath and a cycleway.

This image was captured with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 Camera.

That looks awesome! We have the same entry, the sydney harbour bridge! 😍😍😍

We have too @joyjoyharb Have just visited and upped your Sydney Harbour bridge image. I'd love to know how many photos of this famous bridge have been take. The number would be quite staggering, I believe.

It's undeniably beautiful that's why. That's true, I too have a lot of shots of the harbour bridge. Was really astounded the first time I saw it.

I think the Sydney Harbour is one of the most beautiful in the world.......but then I will admit to being biased and I haven't actually visited many of them. But sailing down this harbour is a very special treat indeed.

That is absolutely true, we've done that and crossed the bridge as well. What makes it the most beautiful as my opinion, is that it's arch shaped and it's not a common design unlike other city bridges.

I haven’t walked across it, or have I climbed the to the top........I will leave that to others who don’t get vertigo just thinking of it. 😁 Yes....
the unique shape and incredible design makes ‘our’ bridge very special. 😊

I can't imagine myself climbing the top too. Still, I look forward to see it at night sometime soon.

It must look fabulous at night. Hopefully I get to see that one day. 😊
