Background
I took this picture 4 years ago when I was traveling throughout Israel and Jordan. It was my first trip to the Middle East. Seeing this in person is absolutely breathtaking. Its architecture and mosaics were patterned after nearby Byzantine churches and palaces. The gold-plated roof was added in 1959–61 and again in 1993 (refurbishment driven by a donation of King Hussein of Jordan).
