THE BLOGGER’S GUIDE EPISODE 1; THE MOST USED TERMS EVERY NEW BLOGGER SHOULD KNOW.
Hello guys. My sincere apologies for practically missing in action. I had to face a more pressing need, so my blog had to stay void since you sometimes can’t sail two ships at the same time. i finished my university and defended my school project just last week, congrats to me. But now, I’m back here again, and this time, with some really interesting topics, which I would drop some in episodes and some others just as they come.
So, for today; I’d be sharing some really important terms we, as bloggers, though on the steem blockchain and other hosting sites need to get familiar with. These terms are pretty easy to familiarize with and it is important you do so. Trust when next you see them, they don’t look strange to you.
So, the following are a few blogging terms every blogger, whether, old, new or just an enthusiast should know;
A/B SPLITTING TEST
This basically has to do with carrying out an analysis on two versions of strategies employed in carrying out a task. It could either be a campaign, a written content or a marketing strategy. For us here on steemit, the A/B splitting test, could be used when you in times of your writing. You could do a brief post and then a lengthy post, compare the strategies used in each and the arrive at what strategy or approach worked better. This requires careful study and analysis.
AUDIENCE
As the word goes “audienceeee”. These are your fans. They are people who read your blog. These guys are your die-hard fans. They always anticipate your next blog post. So as soon as you drop your link, you find them running to read what you have just posted.
ANCHOR TEXT
The number rule of steemit is “don’t plagiarize”. However, you are always advised to provide the sources of your information if it is not your work or quote or image. So, what you do is, make use of an anchor text which is that…
… clickable text that is always in a hyperlink.
I’d also explain what a hyperlink is.
AUTOMATE
Yeaa… I chose to write about this because we have some automated functions on steemit, like the upvoting bots, the plagiarism bot a.k.a Mr. Cheater and so on. So, basically, in blogging, they are some automated features that are controlled by bots. If steemit could get a chat bot too, that would be great. (Anticipate my post on AI; a whole new revolution I just gave out a topic). So, with the automated bots, the long process and stress of stach having to curate all the posts written under the tag is given to the bot.
One last one for alphabet “A”.
AVATAR
When a steemit account is newly approved, one of the first things that should be done is to change your avatar. So, an avatar is could either be a picture of the person behind the account or any graphical image of a person on his webpage, social media page or blog. So, with your avatar, we could be able to get guess of what you are, who you are and what you look like and in most cases, the kind of things you like. Example, if I didn’t want a picture of myself placed as my avatar, I would simply pick up an animated character. So that way everyone just knows I like animations. It’s important you have an avatar. Anonymous is cool too grins.

BANDWIDTH
Yea! Bandwidth. Sometime in December last year, there were complains all in the air saying some people had exceeded their bandwidth and couldn’t make posts or carry out any transaction on steemit and all. I was a victim of that but since I had a pending payout that had some SP, I was safe. Bandwidth is that which avails you with a certain amount of traffic and data on your blog and the internet.
it describes the level of traffic, and amount of data that can transfer between your site, users, and the Internet. Text Source. @samstickkz wrote about this some months ago, so you could check it out for more information.
BETA
Yea, do you know that steemit is still in its BETA stage??
@samstickkz would always say each time he tries to explain the future of the steem blockchain. Beta, basically, refers to a website or page or application that is not in general use, as it is still undergoing some tests. So, don’t get confused when next you see Beta 1.0 etc.
BLOG:
I used to parade myself as a blogger back then in 2014-2016 because I had a blog and good thing is I still parade myself as one because I’m a blogger but this time on the steem blockchain. That’s cause there’s an understanding of what a blog really is. Therefore steemian, a blog is a website or a webpage that is updated on a regular base and is typically run by a group of people or oneself. It could either be a formal blog or an informal blog, depending on what the blogger chooses.
BLOGVERSARY
Everyone celebrates one anniversary or the other, either your friendship with someone; Facebook calls it FRIENDVERSARY, or marriage anniversary, relationship anniversary and so on. So, like all of those, other blogs were birthed on a particular day and deserves to be celebrated. So, the blogversary is basically the “birthday” of your blog. I remember @ejemai, @tojukaka celebrated their 1-year blogversary sometime ago. Yea, that’s it basically.
Last one for “B”
BOUNCE RATE
This could also help in you A/B splitting test. This helps you monitor the amount or percentage of people who visited your blog but viewed only one page and said au revoir to your blog. This could also help you replace strategies and approaches you use for your blog., like I said, you’re A/B splitting test.
C
CONVERSION RATE
So you have developed a new strategy or approach and it’s working fine now, then you have a discord channel you would like people to sign up on or any call to action, the conversion rate is what helps you know the amount of percentage of people (audience), who clicked on those actions such as signing up on your discord channel and probably contact you, signup to be a sponsor for your project or signup to get a newsletter.
CALL TO ACTION (CTA)
Like I stated in the section for Conversion Rate, a call-to-action usually comes in form of an image or text that requests that your visitors, leads, and audience takes an action. This could be either to contact you, email you, add up on discord or signup for a newsletter or sponsorship for a project. Literally, that’s a “call” to “action”. i.e, calling your audience to take an action. I once saw a suggestion like this on utopian-io, but I guess for reasons best known to the developers, they haven’t added this feature yet.
COOKIE
This cookie is quite different from the ones we eat. Basically,
A cookie (called an Internet or Web cookie) is the term given to describe a type of message that is given to a Web browser by a Web server. The purpose of a cookie is to recognize users as well as prepare customized Web pages or to save site login information for users. Text source
So, in sum, Cookies are those text files, usually very small in size, that stored on your computer to save information for a blog or website to retrieve later. Example of such details/ information, are your login detail. When you see those options of “save password” or “keep me logged in”, the cookie is what stores it.

CURATED CONTENT
Yeaaaa… Curation. To some, steemit is their first opportunity to hear the term curate. But this is not peculiar to steemit alone. It is a blogging term that refers to a set or sets of selected content, either for rewards or quality.
CLICK BAIT
this is a headline designed to make readers attracted to a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest. Text Source
Basically, it is a catchy headline that tends to attract readers to a blogpost or webpage. So, a click bait is like a magnet that attracts people to a certain webpage.
takes deep breath.
I’d have to stop here for episode 1 and probably continue till letter z in other episodes to come. Although this might not be sequential, but surely, they’d come.
CONCLUSION
This blogger’s guide seeks to enlighten content developers/ providers here on steemit and beyond on the very necessary things to know as a blogger, both here on steemit and beyond. However, I’d be doing several other guides for you.
So, stay tuned for more.
