MODERN SLAVERY

in #busy7 years ago

2018 seems so far when we see our human history, but how far have we gone when we speak about slavery? What we see today is nothing short of a (and i dare to say here) slavery of the modern type.

You may say we have rights. In some countries they do. In most countries like Albania they certainly don't.

In ancient times we see a similar situation whether in Egypt, Roman Empire , Ancient Greece, India, etc. Aristotle summed up slavery in Greece with three words: work, discipline and food. Today we have work, "training", food. The only difference is that in ancient times there was physical abuse, now it's emotional. The economical situation forces people to keep going however difficult the job conditions and employers are taking advantage of this situation. In Roman Empire and Ancient Egypt they could buy their freedom easier and could later be citizen with the right to vote, while in Greece there was not such designed path.

Sure you may say but this is 2000-3000 years ago and i say that's exactly the point. How much have been made to reduce that slavery type of life? In addition to that, now they are trying to develop robots to do humans job. They want to do that because robots have no rights and no emotions and they can work for hours without ever feeling tired. Another widespread issue is the working hours. In Roman Empire 2000+ years ago, a roman citizen was working 7 hours per day in summer and 6 hours per day in winter which brings it up from 36 to 42 hours per week. Do you think much have changed during the 2000+ years up to now? My full-time job expects me to work 48 hours per week and i work another 17-20 hours as a freelancer in translation which adds up to 65+ hours per week (not including here what is not counted everyday, 30 minutes rest and 30 minutes ready time for in and out).

I praise countries like Holland and Denmark with approx. 29 hours per week which definitely contributes to a better human relationship. Scandinavian countries are no short of those figures. In Japan on the other hand there is a word called "karoshi" which roughly means "Death caused from over work." Employers in Japan give their employees bonuses for working extra hours.

There is no doubt that there have been some progress throughout the world, but overall we are still considering work, a place to suffer. No wonder many people lose their minds from stress, some lose their families. People can no longer educate their children because they are not there when children need them the most. I don't understand why people go in streets (especially in Albania) supporting this and that political party. What we should do is have a program of our own. The system must change. It takes time, but if no one stands up, then humanity might end up keeping the slave type of life and never enjoy the moments that really count in their (our) life.

I am working on another topic but this time i won't reveal it since i am not sure which one to choose first.

Here in the US. The slave master is debt. Figure the average household carries 10,000 USD in credit card debt. Everything they buy is 18-23% more expensive due to interest on the debt.

So the debtor is slave to the lender...

I have heard of it because some of my relatives live there. What's up with that? Don't people do the math? In my country there are tougher conditions to loan money and that's good 'cause with ~300$ average salary a month, we won't be able to pay back. I have only touched the job industry in this post, but we are slaves to many different situations. So to me there was never an end to slavery. Slavery has just transformed and updated to the actual time period. Will we ever be free from it?!

People can no longer educate their children because they are not there when children need them the most.

I feel that in the U.S. the government prefers to have more influence over the young. The public school system teaches what benefits government interests. It can be a challenge here for parents who want to instill values in their children not in line with those interest.

Sadly I am up too late and a bit brain dead. I did want to stop by and congratulate you on a great post.

I am well aware of the situation because my sister and my niece live there. I don't like politics so much but i heard Hillary say, "It is the government who must have the upper hand on education. Parents have a secondary role." I believe this statement says it all. It is scary. That's why i don't like the actual system. It's built on a minority interest.
