Today the Christian New Year according to the Gregorian calendar. Many say the English New Year. Due to the practice of being ruled by British for a long time, we might call English New Year. As a Christian New Year, the culture of celebrating 1 January started hundreds of years ago. But it has a great history behind it.

The first New Year is celebrated two thousand years before the birth of Christ. It was then celebrated on 1 March as the first day of New Year. Because, according to the original Roman calendar, March 1 of every year was the first day of the New Year. The time of the year was calculated in 10 months. The new year starts from March. And January is included in the calendar 153 years before Christ's birth The first time in Rome on January 1 starts the New Year. The second King of Rome, Numa Patulas, included in the calendar for two months January and February. Although many people still celebrated the New Year on March 1. 46 years before Christ's birth, Julius Caesar introduced a new calendar with a major change in the ancient Roman calendar. This calendar was announced on 1st January as the first day of the year. From that on 1 January the New Year's celebration begins as the first day of the year. In the medieval period 567 AD, in different parts of Europe, 1 January is excluded from the first day of New Year. Even then, the celebration of the New Year began in different places at different times. At that time on 25th December, somewhere in the 1st of March, the New Year was celebrated somewhere on 25th March. However, according to the Gregorian calendar in 1582, January 1 is again celebrated as the first day of the New Year. Then on 1 January the new year started to become popular gradually. Since the year 1752, America and Britain began to celebrate New Year on January 1. But this is not an English New Year. Because the British adopts Gregorian calendar as the British passes legislation, so this calendar can not be called an English calendar at any time. That's why we do not call this New Year, there is no shortage of joy in this new year.

We welcome the New Year. Because the New Year gives guidance in our new thinking, the new path forward. Learning from past mistakes and experiences, we can move behind all kinds of darkness behind the illuminating future. And for this, it is not enough to justify the mistakes of the past; it is necessary to open the door for future by openly accepting their own responsibilities through harsh and selfless self-criticism. Need to avoid all anti-human thinking, including communalism and fanaticism, and stand against what is wrong and dishonest. Of course, it is difficult to say words in the context of current Bangladesh, making them realistic in nature.
