Steeming Finds Day #1: Thoughts on Food

in #busy7 years ago (edited)

My #steemingfinds is just a compilation of what I think are resteem and upvote-worthy posts related to a certain topic of my choice. They don't need to be curie-worthy posts, but they must be thought-stimulating.

Why grow your own food?

Gone are the times when growing your own food is considered a basic life skill. Over the years, interest in farming declined as more and more people are attracted to urban life and non-agricultural jobs. These urban people are too preoccupied that they no longer care about the quality of food that is being served to them.
Here, Steemian @quinneaker is going against the norm by advocating sustainable living.
After reading his post, some of us might want to follow his lead. It just might be fulfilling to learn how to grow our own organic food. In this way we don't only get to improve our health but also help preserve the environment.

On food evolution.

Have you ever wondered how the society evolved in such a way that from consuming plain food from their harvests and hunt, people are now able to come up with other means to prepare palatable meals? Makes us think how lucky for us to be living in this time where there are varied options to satisfy our palate. Take this for example.
If man weren't designed to innovate, we would still be eating raw plants and meat at this time. Good thing it's not the case.

Food sharing and team building.

I can never emphasize enough the importance of food sharing. It may be just a simple act, but its impact spread wide from improving the mood of an individual (it's a way to de-stress for some people) to helping build relationships at home or in the workplace.
A lot of activities that people used to enjoy doing publicly or in a group before has now been preferred to be done solo for some reasons. Take traveling, a number of travelers now prefer to be solo backpackers; watching movies/theater, nowadays people opt to watch online movies at the comfort of their own homes or rooms; and playing games, more and more people are easily hooked on playing virtual game apps using their mobile phones.
But I don't think activities such as this posted by @shoganaii, will ever go out of fashion anytime soon.
Mealtime, for me, has been and will always be far more enjoyable when spent with other people .

Are you aware that too much food is being wasted everyday?

This is a sad reality that Steemian @reko wanted us to see in his post, Free the Food.
I think this is such a great initiative that we all should support by taking conscious effort to minimize (or eliminate totally) the amount of food we waste everyday. I, myself, am guilty of this sometimes. It shouldn't be just the supermarket owners and vendors but also us, the consumers, who should take action. Together we can make a difference.

Last but not the least,

Qurator's Food Competition.

This is for those who are expecting this post to be mainly about mouth-watering food photography and recipes. Here's something to
feast your eyes on! If you are into food photography, you might as well join the contest.

Happy Steeming!
