Adapting is Human...

As humans in a changing world with a diverse society, we are meant to learn and evolve as we go through the experiences that life provides us every day. I have learned this as I have also been reflecting about my age and how time passes and the impacts time has on our bodies. I have been dieting for about 15 years (off and on), and I find that each time I do so, it gets more difficult to achieve results. This is despite having an active lifestyle as I often am able to workout almost every day (I include 30 minute walks a workout). This has been important to do my sedentary professional career. However, I have come to the conclusion that the food portion is the key to maintenance and seeing the results.

I recently read about the benefits of eating Whole Foods as well as more organic options of food we eat today. I think this is a steep challenge for me as I have eaten processed foods since I can remember as they are often associated to the social environment I grew up in when I was young. Our habits grow with us and despite enjoying different types of food for years now, I still enjoy some of the foods of my past. I continually try to change my eating habits in order to improve my ability to remain healthy but the decades of bad habits hardly make dents on new ones.

Today is not about talking about my health and fitness as that will come in next week’s post on my monthly progress. Today is about how thinking about this has made me reflect a bit on my approach here on Steem. This week saw plenty of discussions, some civilized and some not, about the upcoming Hard Fork that is being proposed. No matter what each of us think, the power is in the hands of few to make the votes and decisions for what the future holds for us. The details behind the proposals are still yet to be publicly revealed which is disappointing but even the ones that have been discussed may have a technical insight that draws to certain conclusions; but the reality is that we really do not know what these changes mean to each of us.

No matter how the future looks here on the ecosystem, the community will always adapt its behaviors to the code and protocol that progresses. That is the essence of human nature and game theory. However, there will also be unintended consequences that we may not be prepared for just like what happened with Hard Fork 20. I think that there is still plenty of information needed to be shared with the community before the consensus process starts as we need to realize that the witnesses decide because of the votes we provide them, not the other way around.

While I am sure we will all adapt to the realities that will come from Hard Fork 21, we should still understand the implications so we can be ready to engage in the new reality. We will also need to understand the implications for those that have yet to join us on this journey. If we are unaware of this, how can we continue to attract users to participate in the ecosystem? I hope that we can not rush into what we think can be a solution only to run into a bigger problem. We need adequate testing and preparedness in order to ensure that the protocol remains sustainable for the long term which requires community first.

Also just saw the EOS June 1st event that officially launched Vision, the Steem competitor and can say briefly that it is more than welcomed to share its experiment so we can also adapt and learn with it. In my eyes, it is only a Dapp whereas Steem is already an ecosystem!
