Bonn - The bloom of cherry blossoms is often awaited many people in various countries. The beautiful color makes anyone want to take pictures with him.
Every year in the early spring there is always something different in the City of Bonn. The cherry trees along the street in the old town or the Altstadt are blooming and spoiling the eyes with a beautiful pink color.
As quoted from DW, Saturday (4/28/2018), beautiful sakura trees did not make everyone happy. At some point in the Altstadt area, a poster was found with a threatening tone.
"7000 nails to everyone in Bonn If the cherry blossom festival is not finished and the photography madness is not stopped soon, we will nail 7,000 copper nails in the tree FF", as the sentence in the poster compiled with clippings of letters from local magazines and newspapers .
Bonn Police are investigating the incident.
"We are seriously investigating the case", Bonn Police spokesman Robert Scholten told DW.
"But the investigation is a bit complicated because there are no witnesses and no evidence to support", he added.
Bad Situation
The police and the Bonn City government are skeptical of such threats will actually be committed. However, they say, there is nothing to do if there are people who nail the cherry trees with copper nails.
"This is a bad thing", said Andrea Schulte, clerk of the Bonn city government press office, told DW.
He says, a copper spike if plugged into a tree can make a tree die. Schulte emphasized that the cherry blossom season in Bonn has always been calm and no complaints have been reported to the authorities of Bonn, due to traffic or noise caused by visitors of the old city.
Tourists are concerned
Within two weeks where the cherry trees were blooming in Bonn, thousands of people from all over the world came to take pictures there. The tourists, who are equipped with selfie sticks, cameras and smartphones, throng the old town's narrow streets and hinder the traffic of cyclists or cars, who often ring bells and horns.
"I can understand the position of the local population if this situation might upset them", said Tara, a 30-year-old Australian tourist.
"But it would not hurt if people want to have memories by taking pictures," he added.
Many say that the man who threatened to nail the cherry tree in Altstadt Bonn did not think it through.
"The problem is caused by visitors, not by trees", says Irina, a 20-year-old Bonn student, to DW.
"That's a stupid threat," said Sophia, Irina's friend. "Thanks to the cherry trees, a lot of tourists are coming, which also brings a lot of money to Bonn.Why would anyone spoil it?"
Great Income for Local Businesses
The madness of cherry blossoms might upset residents living in the Altstadt area, but not for those who run a business.
"When the cherry blossoms are not in bloom, there is no one here," says Ömer Pire, the owner of the restaurant. He and his family own one döner restaurant and three other restaurants in the Altstadt area. They always look forward to the season of cherry blossoms each year.
"The cherry season brings benefits to small businesses and restaurants", he said. "Nothing better than this."
Victoria Harlos, owner of the "Print and Paint" print business in Altstadt dismissed criticism about too many people taking pictures on the street, because he thinks this has happened for years. The only difference is now the majority of people who take photos of sakura are not professional photographers.
"I think this is good, the atmosphere is very good", said Harlos. "Not many people do not like this situation, they just sound more loud."
