Cambridge Analytica Still Pocketed Facebook User Data
Scandal abuse of Facebook user data by Cambridge Analytica seems to be still not over. Therefore, the latest findings from Channel 4 News called the data in the agency of this analysis has not been completely removed.
In fact, Cambridge Analytica claimed to have deleted the data it has. In fact, the analytical body is ready to undergo audits from third parties related to these data.
However, as quoted from Business Insider, Thursday (29/3/2018), Channel 4 News revealed it found there are 136 thousand data users who come from Colorado, United States at Cambridge Analytica.
According to a source from an insider from Cambridge Analytica, the data came from Facebook that is still stored. The data contains Facebook user profiles including the psychological side.
These findings clearly make the public increasingly doubtful statement of Cambridge Analytica who called will delete the data. Following this news, both Facebook and Cambridge Analytica still have not given a statement.
One of the Colorado residents who contacted Channel 4 News said he was very disappointed with these findings.
He feels this is a manipulation by people who do not really care, but think more of their own business.
New Services Facebook
Previously, Facebook plans to bring more local news in News Feed. This allows users to be more informed by local news sources about the neighborhoods and other cities that may be favored.
Priority to this local news has been done by Facebook in early 2018 in the United States (US). Facebook also expanded the new features to other countries, including in Indonesia.
"Local news helps people connect with communities related to issues in their environment, so people can see news on topics that have a direct impact on their communities as well as information about what's going on in their environment," Facebook said in its official statement on Wednesday (28/3). / 2018).
Through this update, Facebook claims to help local publishers covering news across multiple cities at once, in order to reach readers in each of these areas.
News sources will be considered as local publishers if people in some cities are more likely to read articles from their domain, than people outside the city.
"We are also expanding our understanding of what many people consider local to include other cities they like and connecting them with local publishers from those cities," said Head of News Products Alex Hardiman.
Hardiman also asserted Facebook will continue to try to prioritize the quality of news in News Feed, including from sources that are widely trusted, informative and relevant to local communities.
"It is our hope that our efforts will continue to expand and expand this year," he said.
Facebook Boss Apologizes Openly in Newspapers
Apart from the new service, Facebook is in the spotlight related scandal abuse data tens of millions of users. A company called Cambridge Analytica reportedly used the data for commercial purposes.
Facebook has also acknowledged the issue and apologized. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has also apologized.
Zuckerberg also posted a full-page apology in several top newspapers in the United States (US) and Britain on Sunday (25/3/2018) and Monday (26/3/2018).
The apology advertisement signed by Zuckerberg reads: "You may have heard of quiz applications created by university researchers who leaked data of millions of people on Facebook in 2014. I apologize because we did not do much more then."
The word "university researchers" refers to University of Cambridge academician Aleksandr Kogan, who according to Facebook, has violated the privacy policy by providing user data to Cambridge Analytica, without permission. Cambridge Analytica has no relationship with the University of Cambridge.
