Indonesia Shares Experience Managing Microcredit to Palestine

Amman - The Government of Indonesia shares its microfinance management experience to the Palestinians. The experience was shared in a microcredit training seminar held in Amman, Jordan on 25 - 28 March 2018.

Technical cooperation assistance in the field of micro credit is one of the implementation of the Government of Indonesia's commitment to support human resources (HR) and encourage the growth and economic independence of Palestinian society.

"The capacity-building program for Palestine is an integral part of Indonesia's support for the Palestinian struggle for independence," Indonesian Ambassador to Palestine Andy Rachmianto said at the opening of the International Workshop on Microfinance for Palestine in Amman on March 25, 2018, as quoted by the release official Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Amman (26/3/2018).

The training seminar was attended by 30 participants from government officials, entrepreneurs, social workers and microcredit stakeholders in Palestine.

The activity itself is a collaboration between the Directorate of Technical Cooperation, the Directorate General of IDP Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the BRI Institute for Microfinance and Financial Inclusion (BRIIM), Wafaa Indonesia, and the Indonesian Embassy in Amman.

Director of Technical Cooperation Mohammad Syarif Alatas added that Palestine is one of the priority countries receiving technical assistance for technical cooperation in Indonesia.

"Through this training in micro credit, Indonesia wants to share the experience of micro credit management in Indonesia with the Palestinians, especially in improving small and medium enterprises (UKM)," said Syarif.

Attending the opening ceremony include the Chairman of the Palestinian Parliamentary Committee of Jordan, Yahya Saud, Chairman of the Palestine Indonesia Friendship Association (PIFA), Jordan Indonesia Friendship Association (JIFA), representatives of the Palestinian Embassy in Amman, Executive Director of WAFAA Indonesia and Palestine.

This program of technical cooperation in the field of microcredit is one of the eleven priority areas of human resource development in Palestine as stated in the outcome of the documents Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) II held in Jakarta 2014.

The workshop is also a real effort to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in poverty alleviation, job creation and economic growth, especially in Palestine.

During 2007-2018, the Government of Indonesia has implemented 159 capacity building training courses for 1,826 Palestinian citizens in various fields. The country will continue to improve and develop capacity building programs for the Palestinians.

Yahya Saud, the Palestinian Jordanian senator is deeply appreciative of the ongoing activities and support of the Government of Indonesia in helping the Palestinian people.

Indonesia is one of the countries that have a high commitment to support the Palestinians in obtaining the desired perennial independence.
