MARKET ANALYSIS 08/05/2018 by IMBI (Disney earnings report coming today)

Markets await Trump’s Iran decision: After starting the day strong, gains in US markets were somewhat curbed due to a tweet by president Trump, who said that at 18:00 GMT, he will be announcing his decision in regards of the nuclear deal with Iran. If Trump back out of the deal, which has been in place since 2015, he will re-impose sanctions on the Persian Gulf nation and perhaps announce new sanctions on countries who do business with Iran.

Disney to announce earnings: On the heels of two positive sessions, the media giant will be releasing its earnings report after-hours today. The earnings come after Disney’s latest blockbuster, Avenger: Infinity War, recently became the fastest movie to earn $1 billion globally. The earnings may be overshadowed by recent reports suggesting media corporation Comcast may be planning a hostile takeover of Fox, which agreed to sell its assets to Disney.

Asian markets seen higher: Impressive gains were seen in Asia this morning, as the Nikkei, Hang Seng and China50 all registered gains. At the time of writing, the China50 was up more than 2.5%.

Apple continues to set records: The tech giant closed higher yesterday, further adding to its all-time high. Other companies also registered record highs, including Ferrari, GoDaddy, Visa and Mastercard.

Cryptocurrencies show slight gains: Positive momentum was seen in crypto markets, as all top 10 cryptos registered gains over the past 24 hours. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was nearly flat, trading above $9,300, while EOS was the top 10 crypto with the most gains, rising more than 7%.

Europe opens mixed: The FTSE opened 14 points higher, the CAC was nearly flat and the DAX opened 5 points lower. Banks in France will be closed today in observance of a national holiday.
