Fear and STEEMFest - My Entry for Blocktrades Road to STEEMFest Contest 9
This week, @anomadsoul asks us to talk about our fears for the upcoming STEEMFest in Bangkok Thailand. I will start by addressing the fears he lists:
Do you think no one will recognize you and say hello to you? Don't worry, @waybeyondpadthai will greet you when he sees you.
@waybeyondpadthai is a woman I really want to meet after several misses in Thailand and Malaysia in the last years. I think we will both recognize each other. I know some of the other people coming, so we will recognize each other. If others do not know how I look, now they will!
Are you afraid you'll end up too drunk one of the nights? Don't worry, @celestal will be your sidekick.
I don’t drink due to autoimmune disease, and will not have money for alcohol in any case. But I will gladly be the sober one at any event. Someone has to do it.
Do you fear ending up in a corner with no one to talk to? Don't worry, @travelgirl will keep you company there.
I used to have to go to conferences in my 30 year accounting and business career. I took classes on things like "How to Work a Room." I am not one to stand in a corner, but I do make a point to introduce myself to those who do. If I am not mingling, I am resting, and will soon start talking to people again.
Does running out of a conversation topics give you anxiety? Don't worry, @louis88 will definitely have something to talk about with you.
My strategy is to ask questions with anyone I meet. This has never failed me yet.
Do you think no one will laugh about your jokes? Don't worry, @macchiata will always have a smile for you.
I do not tell jokes. People laugh at me all the time though, so this should not be an issue.
Do you dread the idea of being surrounded by strangers? Don't worry, we are all a family at this point.
I live my life surrounded by strangers since I do not stay in one place for long. I think of the people who will make it to STEEMfest as friends; not strangers.
These are just examples... don't answer this questions on your posts but actually speak about your fears about this event, and the whole situation…
Oops! Should have read to the end, but I am working fast today.
My biggest fear
My biggest fear, and maybe only fear, is not being able to make it to Bangkok at all. After some good weeks of upvotes for the posts on my three blogs, this is dying out now. We have had a big drop off of voting on STEEM and it does not seem to be coming back. You can see details on this post:
Why have people stopped voting in STEEM?
See the comments for why this might be happening. Definitely bad timing for me along with the STEEM price issues.
At this point I have a hostel reservation, but no flight or bus/train arranged since I do not have the money to pay for either. I'm in Malaysia, so there will be travel availability if I get the money. But my rent is late and my monthly wifi is coming up Friday, so both of those bills come ahead of STEEMFest.
I need to leave the country on STEEMFest dates no matter what. My 90 day tourist visa will be over and I need to leave to get a new one. But I may end up only getting across the border and staying in Southern Thailand for the time of STEEMFest. I can do that more cheaply than going all the way to Bangkok.
That would be a big disappointment. I am one of only three entries for a STEEMFest ticket contest where two conference fees are being given out. That would be wonderful, and more the reason I do not want to fail in my attempt to be in place.
I am ever the optimist and always expect the best result. Sometimes that result could not be seen before it comes.
This is my entry for the RoadtoSTEEMFest and @blocktrades Contest #9 by @anomadsoul. @blocktrades is holding 16 contests in advance of STEEMFest. This is the ninth one, which closes Sunday October 27.
The photos for this post are all taken by me in Thailand with various cheap point and shoot cameras and cell phones.
