After the original release in 2005, Netflix has extended The Staircase series by three episodes and if you haven't watched it already you need to - especially if you're like me and love a murder documentary! This series, like other recent releases from Netflix, is the right amount of chilling and intriguing.

The Staircase follows the story of fictional writer Michael Peterson, and an incident that happened in 2001. Late one evening in 2001 Peterson's wife Kathleen was discovered in a pool of blood at the bottom of a set of stairs in their home. This event goes on to consume his life when he is arrested as the prime suspect for murder.

The documentary is centred around Michael's court battle to prove his innocence. Whilst the director would argue it is impartial at times it did feel like the story was sided to Michael's innocence, rather than guilt. The series is filled with exposed secrets, which at times seem surreal, only adding the mystery surrounding the case.

My favourite thing about this series was the conflict between Peterson's lawyer David Rudolf and the District Attorney, which made the series even more compelling.

What do you think?
Have you seen The Staircase?
Do you think Michael is innocent or guilty?
Let me know.
