World War II: Hitler's biggest mistakes
Hello my dear Steemit friends!
Today I will write something about Adolf Hitler. In fact, about his biggest mistakes which if he didn't do, he would complicate or even won the war.
By me, his biggest mistake was operation Barbarossa. This operation was a Nazi attack on the USSR. It began on June 22, 1941. Hitler's army was much stronger and bigger than Soviet army because Stalin took most of his army to the east because he was afraid of Japanese attacks. Hitler called this attack a defensive war because he tought USSR would soon attack him.
The operation started over the summer because Hitler was afraid of winter and he knew that Napoleon lost in Russia because of winter. He started an attack from three directions: a group of armies from the north which was supposed to conquer Leningrad, a group of armies in the middle which was supposed to conquer Moscow and a group of armies in the south which was supposed to conquer the whole Ukraine (this country was important for its fertile land.)
These three armies should be merged after the execution of the goals and then USSR would be destroyed. In the beginning, Hitler's army made good progress but as winter came it was harder for German soldiers who were not accustomed to such conditions.
There are two biggest mistakes why Hitler lost war against USSR:
First, he should have started the operation earlier, at least on May 15 as it was first envisaged. In that case, the army would come to Moscow before the Autumn rains.
The second mistake was that he was too hesitant to conquer the Moscow. Hitler feared that the Soviet army would destroy his army from the north and from the south if he conquer the Moscow. So the Nazi army remained 60 days immovable in Smolensk (this city is about 400 km away from the Moscow) and there they where cought by winter and the Soviets strengthened their army.
This events meant the final destruction of the operation.
My main question is: why Hitler attacked the USSR? Hitler and Stalin had an agreement on anti-subsidence and Hitler unnecessarily opened war on two fronts. Stalin would not have attacked him soon because his army was not strong enough.
My opinion is that first all the forces should be directed on Britain in order to win it. So Hitler would have the whole Northwest Europe in his hands and after that he could move to the USSR.
The second biggest mistake was the war in northern Africa. The war in northern Africa lasted from 1940 to 1943. It began with the Italians announcing the war to the allies.
The biggest battles were running around the city of El Alamein, where the British army (the chief of the army was a well-known commander Bernard Montgomery) made fascists to retreat to Tunis.

After that, the US included in the war commanded by the general Dwight Eisenhower. The British and American troops beat the Italian and German troops that was led by Erwin Rommel. He was Hitler's right hand and one of the most capable Nazi commanders. His biggest advantage was that he could quickly adapt to opponents and field.

After the Germans lost North Africa, the allies had open way to Italy and Europe via the Appennine peninsula.
Looking from today's perspective, Hitler should immediately send more troops to Africa to win oil fields that would give him the resources or he had to give up immediately from Africa and to make the Italians to return to Europe. Hitler in Africa lost a large part of the army for no reason and that army could greatly help him fight in southeastern Europe.
Third mistake was the quality of army. Many people who don't know much about World War II think that Hitler had the strongest army but that is not true. Hitler did not produce automatic and semi-automatic guns at the beginning of the war. This happened only in the later part of the war.
Also, Hitler didn't have good and developed aircrafts carriers so he could not fight with the US and other allies on the sea. He was supposed to make more submarines that proved to be very powerful weapon to destroyed enemies ships. From the very beginning of the war it was supposed to develop tanks like Panther that were much stronger than other tanks and he had to develop small tanks (hunters on other tanks). With small tanks the Soviet were destroying Hitler in Russia. With this weapon Hitler could much more effectively run the war, especially with the submarines with which he would more easily conquer Britain.
My opinion is that if Hitler used this tactics would extend the war and perhaps even won it. I hope that this text is interesting and instructive to you and I ask you to write your opinion in the comments! 😃
What if Japan did not attack America (when it comes to the biggest mistakes)?
We can talk about this much, but I think it was inevitable. Why? Japan wanted the war and Americans just waited for the attack. If Japan has given up the attack on the Pacific and went to Asia, it would have war with Stalin. Then Americans would certainly help either Russia or Britain on the Atlantic. Also, the Japanese could not remain neutral because Hitler has caused them to attack someone. So I think there was a secret agreement between Japan and the Nazis that the Nazis will attack USSR and Japanese will attack US.
