Thing I Learned as a Business Development Manager

Clients? Leads? Prospects? Same thing but different outlook. While using these professional terms, we often forget they are ALL HUMAN!

Here's what I've learned as a Business Development Manager:

  1. Make your pitch as short as possible (TO-THE-POINT): Your lead won’t waste their time reading a lengthy message from a complete stranger. Be concise and respect their time.

  2. Highlight your area of expertise and how you can assist them: Clearly state what you specialize in and how you can help them achieve their goals. This makes your message relevant and valuable.

  3. Use simple English (avoid fancy words): Communicate in a welcoming and personalized manner. Simplicity helps in building rapport and ensures your message is understood.

  4. Always follow up and keep the discussion friendly: Follow up on your initial contact and maintain a friendly tone. This helps in building a relationship and makes the lead feel comfortable.

  5. Keep your temperament in balance: You can't get mad at a client for saying no when they are clearly not interested in you and your services. Maintain professionalism and respect their decision.

There is a saying, “If it can be written in a paragraph, why use a page? If it can be written in a line, why use a paragraph?” and "Client is always right"

So, try to be as human as you can and treat them like human too!
