11 outstanding reasons why you need a mentor. 1/2
Those who underestimate the power of mentorship are less likely to succeed due to a variety of reasons most of which would be covered in this post, but before we get started, what exactly is a mentor? By definition, a mentor is someone who offers his or her knowledge, wisdom and advice to someone with less experience.
There are multiple types of mentors but the concept is pretty much the same, a mentor is someone who has already walked the same road you plan to walk and that can actively help you speed up the process, you can have multiple mentors at the same time, you can have dedicated mentors for different aspect of your life, like a mentor in your business, a mentor for your health, a mentor for your spiritual side and so on, with the basics out of the way, it's time to get into the reasons why you should have a mentor and why if you don't, you're probably doomed to fail.
They've been there and done that
You can talk to someone who is an unbiased third party
No matter your business idea you're less likely to get a real response from your loved ones or your inner circle because they want to support you guess what, the world cares about results and not particularly about you. Your mentor will provide that balance.
They have a whole different network of contacts and connections that you don't
In your journey, you as well will grow your network, but how awesome is it that if deemed worthy, someone is providing you with the access that your competitors might be struggling to get.
Never underestimate the power of someone else's network and you should have a strong focus on developing your own.
It's the best free service you could ever get
There are people called consultants which you can pay hefty sums of money for them to go through your day to day business to see if they can spot any vulnerabilities or points to optimize, usually these consultants are book smart and although their advice is valuable, they lack the street smart needed to make it happen for themselves, that's how they ended up working for the company in question.
A true mentor doesn't need you to pay them for their advice, they're satisfied with just seeing you succeed.
Your mentor may introduce you to a career path that you did not know existed before
They can connect multiple dots which are out of reach for a beginner entrepreneur, they're living example that you can make it in a new industry and would advice you on the right ways to go about it, they'll take you under their wings and provide you with the tools for growth and development, your job is to listen to them and trust their more developed instincts.
A mentor will help you stay in business longer
Straight out, a mentor has already made a ton of really expensive mistake, any one of these could be the end of your business if not dealt with correctly.
Not only can a mentor warn you ahead of time of negative things that are about to happen and the solution he or she found for them but based on their experiences, they could advice you on how to evade those problems completely, this allows you to use your resources more efficiently, thus increasing your chances of surviving. Statistics show that 70% of mentored businesses reach the five year mark, that's an incredible percentage, if you consider that kinky twenty percent of the businesses survive the first year, and our of those, only five statistically reach year five.

I totally agree on this topic. In order to go far in life we need a mentor who has gone through all the ups and downs in life. Brilliant article, i learnt something today.
So true, they give us an edge in life. We don't need to go through that same challenges they went through because we are equipped with the knowledge they've passed down to us.
Bellissimo articolo :-) Buona giornata

I believe in a saying that says “two heads are better than one”
Like the biblical analogy;
On point! This is quite ignorance wrecking.
Thanks to the author.
If am right, choosing a mentor has nothing to do with age.
I mean can my mentor be younger than I am?
Also, I've met with a few people I called mentors that I had to discard from my life. Some because they wanted to colonize my life and others because of the first point... Or maybe I didn't understand right... They have the experience but most times, the way they handled the situation might not work for you that well. And in a way, I feel it cages creativity. But the heads-up equips your for progress.
And when you come to the aged(experienced),you gain the wisdom of years... From the richest man in Babylon.
And please what's the distinction between role model and mentor?
Most of the issue you raised would be treated in the second part of this post.
To your question;
A role model is someone who you pattern your life after, it could be someone you have access to OR otherwise.
On the other hand,
A mentor is someone who has achieved what you hope to achieve, they make inputs in your life, they're actively involved in your journey to the actualization of your goals. They have to be a part of your life, not some distant personality.
I hope I was able to give you clarity, thanks for stopping by.

We all need a mentor but the same way we must be careful not to become like them if we have the opportunity to become better than them.
That's a new angle to it, thanks for sharing
