"Ask A Medium!" With BAV
Greetings, friends!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to talk to a real spiritual medium? Well, wonder no longer because you have come across the perfect article!
As a professional psychic and spiritual medium myself, I have intuitively and spiritually provided guidance to many over the years. The purpose of this post is to create an open forum to discuss all things mediumship!
For starters, I have provided some common questions I get asked all the time about my line of work. My answers to these frequent questions are personal to me, as I can only speak from experience. They are my own opinions; so please be understanding of this. I can only speak for myself! Feel free to comment though on anything I write here. I would love to hear everyone’s own experiences with this topic.
If you pose a question about how psychic abilities work or just want more clarification, I am happy to oblige. Stay tuned for future posts I write answering even more of your questions! Let’s get the conversation started and put an end to all the misleading information out there!

What is a medium?
A medium, to me, is someone who pays attention to and fosters their own innate sense of intuition in order to connect with the spirit realm. We are all intuitive, some more than others – but more likely is the case that many of us simply ignore our intuition or just aren't aware of it at all, or rather how to connect to it, nurture it, and make it work for us for a more fulfilling life.
Mediums use their intuition to connect to spirits by specifically tuning into the energy of the spirits around a client, a location, or an object. Not all psychics can use their intuitive abilities to connect with spirit; but all mediums are by default very psychic. Legitimate mediums do not need the help of paranormal investigation tools and devices. In fact, they also don’t need to rely on divination tools either, such as tarot cards or pendulums. Below, you will read why this is the case for mediums.
How do mediums tune into the energy of spirits?
Mediums rely on their strong sense of intuition to sense subtle energies. Intuition is actually multiple things. It’s that subtle “sixth sense” people are always defining it as; but it’s also part of our mental faculty, which enables us to empathize with others, get creative and imaginative, clear our mind for a sense of peace or clarity, dream during sleep or daydream while awake, feel seemingly random “gut feelings,” and connect to our spirituality – whatever spirituality may mean to each of us personally as an individual. Some say it’s our inner compass. I’d say intuition is synonymous with one’s consciousness and conscience.
However, for a medium to sense subtle energies, such as spiritual energy, they also rely on a strong intention and a strong focus. An intention is as simple as it sounds; it’s setting a goal and also opening up to following through on that that goal. Then, they begin to focus specifically on “reading” spiritual energy. One simply uses willpower to maintain a strong focus. In this case, a medium sets the intention to connect to spirit and then focuses until contact is made.
This is the reason why meditation is so helpful for mediumship work; meditation trains your mind to focus. Meditation also teaches you to clear your mind enough so that spirits can communicate telepathically with you – and that you will be sensitive enough to pick up on their messages versus your own thoughts.
Without these two practices, mediums would find it difficult to instigate contact with the deceased and also to maintain that energy connection for a two-way conversation.
Meditation also helps mediums reach altered states of consciousness. I will address more on this fact in a future post; but for now, all you need to understand is that many mediums feel a stronger connection to spirit while they are in an altered state of mind.
We’re not really talking about drugs here, for now, as again legitimate mediums shouldn’t rely on tools to achieve an altered state of mind. Think dreams. When we dream, our brainwaves naturally change their cycles which create natural altered states of mind. Now, think daydreams. You’re wide awake yet as your body relaxes, your mind wanders and you usually feel a sense of calm or euphoria. This too is an example of an altered brainwave, therefore a temporary state of mind. Meditation basically helps mediums get to this “daydream state” quickly in order to connect to spirit.
Wow, I daydream a lot and am highly imaginative. I have vivid dreams often, too. Do I have the makings to be a medium?!
Plain and simple, yes. As stated above, everyone has intuition, which is the foundation for mediumship. Mediumship abilities usually lay almost dormant inside us our entire lives though. Normally, developing into an accurate medium requires much work. Diligent meditation practices work wonders for budding mediums!
On a side note, spirits are all around us – even if we can’t see or hear them. Oftentimes, they are trying to connect with us too by way of telepathy. Why telepathy? Well, it’s just the way it works over on the Other Side when you don’t need to rely on the usage of a mouth or a body anymore.
Many dreams and daydreams – and almost always those wonderful sudden “light bulb moments” of epiphanies we all get from time to time – are actually spirits trying to guide us. They visit us in dreams because, again, that’s when we are in an altered state of mind, which is conducive to their energy, or “vibration,” as you will hear many mediums say. I will explain more about vibrations and their correlation with altered states of consciousness in a later post.
For now, just remember that spirit is made up of subtle energy that is usually hard for us, as physical beings, to detect. Their main mode of communication is telepathy, or mind-to-mind communication; telepathy itself uses subtle energy. Spirits communicate with all of us best whenever we are asleep, daydreaming, creative, calm, meditating, or in prayer. Be on the lookout for thoughts that pop into your mind that seem random and not your own, especially whilst in one of the above activities just mentioned. I guarantee that they want to reach out to you as much as you want to reach out to them!
