Positivity = Productivity; Bucket Filling
I can't seem to get my mother's voice out of my head. Most of you probably cringe at that statement, because chances are that a lot of you don't want to hear what your mom is serving up. But my mom has managed to influence my inner voice by repetitiously pounding positive, personal effectiveness messaging into my head. Whenever I'd hear her words of wisdom in person, I'd tell her to knock off the WellCoach professional crap cause I didn't want to hear it. But now I can't get what she's been saying all these years out of my frickin head, and it drives me crazy knowing that all this time she's been right. Now I'm thinking about how different my life would be if I had started practicing what she was preaching earlier in my development.
I was recently introduced to the concept of bucket filling. My mother plopped the New York Times bestseller, "How Full Is Your Bucket?" on my lap, so I picked it up and gave it a read. The concept of bucket filling isn't new, but the book puts a well known practice of staying positive and building people's confidence in a unique light. If you think of each person having a bucket and every time you give a person a positive comment, vibe, commendation....errr whatever....you add a drop to their bucket and your own. Every time you make a negative comment etc. to a person you are taking away from their bucket. So the point is when your bucket is full, you're on cloud 9, confident, productive, and positive. When your bucket is empty you're dragging ass, feel like crap, and it seems like the world is against you. Which would you rather feel like?
So let's put this in real life perspective for a minute. Remember that day when that person you were attracted to mentioned you were lookin' good? Or that day at work when you closed the big deal and your boss and fellow employees congratualated you on a job well done? Or that day when your significant other said you were a rock star in bed? Or that day when you volunteered and made somebody's life better? When one of these or similar events occurred how did that make you feel? Pretty damn good I bet, because I know I walk around with a certain swagger when I'm feeling on top of my game, I'm more productive, and people recognize it. Then again, when people throw all their negative crap your way, you feel it and the bad vibes effect your day to day.
Since everybody likes to have confidence and that certain swagger, why don't you try filling other people's buckets. Take the 10 drops in 10 days challenge and see what happens. I guarantee you'll feel better about yourself, and when you're positive you tend to attract people that are feeling the same way. Fill up other people's buckets, because yours will fill up in return.
