Cops on buses is it really effective?

in #bus8 years ago

In order to reduce road fatality involving express buses especially during the festive seasons, Malaysian authority had introduce a new measure by having uniformed policemen on the buses to keep an eye on the drivers.

ACP Nooryah said if the policeman on board found the driver of the bus he was on or any other bus driver on the road to have broken traffic laws, he would note down the bus registration numbers and fine the drivers later.

From one standpoint of view, this is indeed a good move. Although the newspaper had reported the initial feedback is encouraging, how effective this measure really is still remain to be seen. As you know the express buses travel long distance that on some routes the buses have two drivers to complete the journey. How would the policemen cope with such journeys?

I hope the policemen would not fall asleep, but I really doubt that this would not happen. And when the cops sleep on duty, not only the officers are breaching the rules on duty, it also defeat the whole purpose of having them on board in the first place.

I would reserve my comment for now and would wait for the public to make real assesments on board the buses accompanied by the policemen. Why the public? Because sometimes the newspapers don't report the real things yes that happens in Malaysia. So if you do have experience travelling in one of these patrolled buses, please let us know your thoughts and opinion.

In the mean, what do you think of this step taken by the Malaysian authority to reduce road accidents? Share with us your view.
