Please tell us if there is a special law in your country to protect women's rights and what is your opinion regarding this law.
Protection of women act (2006)

This law is most significant milestone in efforts of my country Pakistan for providing protection to rights of women.Through repealing of discrimination laws and establishment of penalties for crimes against women these are providing framework for promotion of gender equality and justice to women.Protection of women act is used for addressing different types of violence and discrimination which are violence at domestic level, sexually harassing and economic exploitation.

Punjab women helpline act

Punjab women helpline act established a helpline for women which is 1043 for reporting cases of harassment, abuse as well as other forms of violence. This helpline is most significant for providing significant support system for women which offers women access for counseling, legal advice as well as other resources.1043 helpline remains available and activated for 24 hours so it's 24/7 service which remains managed by professionals team.

According to me both of these laws are demonstrating commitment of Pakistan for protection of rights of women and promotion of gender equality but when we say that these laws have meaningful effect or not then it depends that how meaningfully it is implementing so there should be providing of proper training to individuals for laws enforcement for creation of safe and equitable society.

Please state whether you consider this law to be effective and whether it does not violate the principle of equality before the law enjoyed by both men and women

Yes I think the laws mentioned by me in above answer are effective which include Protection of women act (2006) and punjab women helpline act to be effective laws which are promoting gender equality and protection of rights of women. These laws are used for addressing some particular types of violence and discriminatory acts against women which provide them with framework of having justice and support.

Both of the laws I have mentioned are not violating principles of equality before law because their major purpose is for addressing inequalities of history as well as promotion of providing equal protection as well as chances for women. These are complementing laws which are existing and helping in promotion of equality of gender.

From the list of crimes mentioned in class, say which ones you consider may be crimes of gender violence and which ones may be common crimes committed against a woman or women

By learning from lesson post crimes of gender violence which I consider are:

• Domestic violence
• Sexual violence
• Forced prostitution
• Sexual slavery
• Sexual harassment
• Obstetric violence
• Forced sterilization
• Trafficking of women, girls, and adolescents

Allah the above mentioned crimes are particularly targeting women and girls by perpetuation of discrimination and violence based on gender.

There are some of crimes committing against women and they may also be gender neutral:

• Harassment or bullying
• Threats
• Physical violence
• Property and economic violence
• Workplace violence
• Media violence
• Institutional violence
• Symbolic violence

Have you or someone close to you been a victim of gender violence. What was the situation? Was the victim able to assert her rights? Do you think the law favored the victim?

I don't have any personal experience but in my neighbours my age fellow named hamna is a girl who was a marketing executive in a software company and there she have to face sexual harassment during her working hours. At her work her boss made some unwanted and immoral advances which affects her performance too.

My age fellow hamna reported that sexual harassment incident to HR and then company take an action against boss by terminating contract with him.Hamna was able for asserting her rights but she was thankful for company because company gave zero tolerance as company have zero tolerance policy and supportive HR so company remains stick with anti harassment legislation which gives surety of providing safety and dignity at her work.

Femicide or homicide

• This scenario is representation of homicide which is committing against woman and its not femicide.
• Femicide is basically gender-based crime in which woman is killed particularly dud to a reason of her gender.
• In this scenario death of woman was a result of her act of refusing for handing over her belongings and not due to her gender.
• In scenerio a of thief was driven by requirements of obtaining property instead of hatred or intolerances of women.
• The crime was of opportunistic type and not particularly targeting woman due to her gender.

Crime of gender violence or common crime

• This scenario is representing violence of gender most specifically violence at domestic and emotional level.
• Actions of husband are insult, humiliation as well as physical assault which are encouraged by requirement of controlling and dominating his wife.

• Statements of husband about role of women in home are rooted in form of patriarchal attitudes and gender stereotypes.
• Violence in this scenario is targeting at woman due to her gender and her role being wife.
• It's a clear case of violence based at gender.
