Youm e Ashoor || 10th Muharram || A Visual Story

in #burnsteem252 years ago (edited)

I gave it a long thought. Whether I should post this blog. What I am about to write and show you is considered as one of the saddest days in the history of the world. 10th Muharram was the day when the family of our Prophet Muhammad pbuh was mercilessly martyred in Karbala, Iraq.

Every year since the past thousands of years, millions of Muslims all over the world mourn over the deaths of our beloved leaders and their families. Karbala is an event which will never be forgotten till the end of the world. I promise you that it will never ever be forgotten. It was a day when a six month old baby was martyred by three arrows in his neck. A month where the family of the Prophet was denied water for days. The family that included women and children. A month where the family of the Prophet pbuh was betrayed. The biggest betrayal that this world will ever see.

Every year, in Karachi, the biggest procession moves all over the city to remind people of this event and to mourn over it. It is usually done by Shias. A sect of Islam. I have a lot of Shia friends and this year I decided to spend the last three days with him. In this post, I'll show you each and everything related to these days. Days where millions of gallons of water and juices are distributed all over the world for free. Where lots of sermons take place. The biggest mourning of this world:

At daytime, there are countless processions all over the city in which thousands of people take part. There are countless water camps known as Sabeel, Where free water and juice is distributed. People distribute food and water to the poor.

There are hundreds of ambulances at the spot for the people. Lots of donation camps and heavy security. The cradles that you see above are a representation of the cradle of that six month old baby who was mercilessly martyred. The sheets are covered in blood. It's all done to let the world know about the barbarism that took place.

At night, in the imaam bargaahs there's an atmosphere created of Karbala. All the lights are turned off and only one red light is switched on. In this an Imaam gives a speech and tells the people of the events that took place in Karbala. It's a heart wrenching experience.

There's a famous saying:

Even the sky cries on the day of Ashoor.

It's hard, or I'd say impossible to control your tears on these days but there's a lesson for us all. It's worrying to see none of us are following the family of prophet. The people who died for us and we are unable to follow their commands. Yes, it's good to mourn for them but its even better to follow them. To follow their teachings. They brought us the word of God and it's absolutely mandatory for us to follow it. I wish to see more people learning lessons in this month of utmost respect for us Muslims.
Thank you.
