The largest railway workshop in Saidpur

The Saidpur Railway Workshop is one of the largest in our country. I’ve visited it a couple of times and will share my experience exploring this massive workshop. This railway workshop is about 17 km from my home. On my first visit, I went with my elder brother, who works there, and a friend from Saidpur. It was a fun and memorable experience for both of us.

In 2023, I visited this workshop with my father. He enjoyed my company, as he went there to meet someone who works at the workshop. I joined him, and now I’m sharing some memorable moments from that visit. My father was mostly focused on his meeting, but I encouraged him to take a short tour around the workshop. He was kind enough to agree, and we explored the place together.

The workshop is divided into several sections, each specializing in different tasks. For example, the carriage repair shop is filled with various machine parts used for maintenance, or other work may be taking place there. Similarly, there are other sections like the C&W shop, AC shop, TL shop, and paint shop, each playing a crucial role in the workshop's operations.

Each section is quite spacious, with a lot of work happening simultaneously. Visiting all of them in detail at once can be quite challenging. The carriage shop is vast, filled with numerous railway engine parts. Exploring every machine and piece of equipment here would take a significant amount of time.

My father was also observing the carriage repair workshop, but unlike me, he wasn’t moving around much or taking pictures everywhere. This massive railway workshop also houses a few historical artifacts. There’s a small museum, and most notably, the luxury coach once used by Queen Elizabeth. I’ll cover these in detail in another post.
