3 March - Bulgaria celebrate her LIBERATION!

Today we celebrate the national holiday of Bulgaria. 140 years since the liberation of our country from Ottoman rule.

On March 3, 1878, the San Stefano Treaty of Peace was signed between Russia and the then Ottoman Empire, ending the Russo-Turkish War that began in 1877 and marks the start of the Third Bulgarian State. In March 1890, March 3 was declared a National Day.

After nearly 500 years under Ottoman rule, the 70s of the 19th century and the establishment of the Bulgarian Diocese in 1870, the beginning of the decisive liberation movement. A Bulgarian Revolutionary Central Committee was formed in Bucharest, headed by Vasil Levski, who began preparations for the uprisings against the Ottoman rule in Bulgaria.

On April 24, 1877, a manifestation of Emperor Alexander II was published in Chisinau, with which Russia declared war on the Ottoman Empire. The Russian army is commanded personally by the Emperor. One of the most significant battles, glorified in our native literature, is the Shipka Epic. The Suleiman Pasha's hordes had to break down the covert parts that had been fortified on the steep slopes of Shipka Peak in order for the Turkish army to break into Northern Bulgaria.
