Summary of January 2018 Results!
- The most successful ad on Facebook can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/jbanfield/videos/1517754641578040/ which features a video intended to help Facebook users discover the value of Steem!
- Our newest ad with the most impressions focused on helping ignite excitement about Steem in the cryptocurrency world as seen at https://www.facebook.com/jbanfield/videos/1661161520570684/. I decided to pause this ad and will try again with different ad text because the costs have been too high so far per share and page like.
- Ads for https://utopian.io/ reached 61,388 github users on Facebook.
- I focused about $100 this month specifically to South Korea where exchanges like https://upbit.com/ have helped cryptocurrency prices rise especially Steem!
- My goal with the ads is to get the best results for the lowest price which has consistently happened since starting the ads in June 2017.
Plans for February 2018!
- In February I will be submitting 25 posts from other users to Google for ads along with a matching video on Facebook from https://steemit.com/budget/@jerrybanfield/the-top-25-steem-posts. I will also be including the video from @tomasgeorge in the ads along with testing more ads of my own.
- We have over $5,000 remaining on payments already sent from @budgets to cover the ads for February and my hope is to hold off on sending more payments until Steem is $10+!
Funding!
- We funded this through payments from @budgets which earns through bids and delegations to my account's voting bot. Every day the bids from the voting bot pay out as follows: 45% of the bids received each day to @budgets to fund more projects, 45% back automatically to delegators in daily payments equal to about 1/1000 of the Steem power delegated, 5% to the bot operator @steembottracker, and 5% to @jerrybanfieldroi for my 104,000+ Steem power contributed effectively giving me a fractional percentage of what the rest of the delegators receive that I mostly use to upvote posts with my bot. While other bots may pay a higher percentage to the delegator, the ideal scenario for an investor is to both receive a return AND have the price of Steem go up. All the projects @budgets funds are intended to raise the value of Steem and therefore the price of Steem. Anyone can add the tag #budget to a post on a project intended to grow Steem and have a chance to receive funding! I like funding lower cost projects with clear goals like meetups, ad campaigns, and new apps.
- If you have not voted for me yet as a witness, will you please join now over 4,000 of us placing a vote for me at https://steemit.com/~witnesses because every witness vote helps increase the funding indefinitely along with helping me represent the future of Steem as a witness? If you think you have voted already, will you double check that the green checkmark is active next to my name because many of us have tried to vote multiple times and ended up removing the vote the second time?
- If you would like to convert some or all of your Steem power to passive income payments each day and help fund all growth projects for Steem including these ads, will you please use the tutorial I uploaded yesterday to delegate Steem power to me at https://steemit.com/steem/@jerrybanfield/65wju0wr because the delegations help increase the voting power of my account which is used exclusively as a voting bot?
- If you want me to upvote your post, will you please send a transfer to me of at least 1 SBD or 1 Steem with the link to your post in the URL because these are how the bids work on the bot? I recommend timing it with https://steembottracker.com/ for the best return.
Thank You!
I am very grateful for the chance to work at home today primarily on Steem a few hours every day and to earn enough income to support my family which includes paying down the $200,000+ in student loans @laurabanfield and I borrowed to get graduate degrees. I hope what I contribute on Steem helps many of us to earn enough to avoid borrowing money and needing to do work we do not love.
Thank you for giving me this chance to be of service today!
Love,
Jerry Banfield

I have not seen an ad for steemit on fb, but i also doubt i would ever click an ad on purpose unless they trick me
ads on Facebook are pretty much useless. People using facebook are pretty much blinded to ads.
Facebook announced that they are banning advertising for cryptos today. I wonder if that will include Steemit (and Steem). Could that be a factor in trying to stop migration of users away from Facebook? I didn't consider that in a brief post I wrote on the issue.... I thought they were simply trying to clean up the suspect advertising they've been scrutinized for lately...
https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@digitaldruid/quick-take-facebook-banning-advertising-for-cryptos
I guess so, especially as Steemit could be seen as competition to Facebook
Thank you, didnt know that...
But hé, 21K people signed up on Steemit yesterday, so i guess we're good!
While getting 24k new users yesterday was really nice, we still need a lot more new users if we want to become mainstream :) Getting people to convert from Facebook to Steemit could be huge for the growth of Steem!
You're correct,
but; new users should get some time to get familiar with the Steem blockchain and be confident to buys some at good prices as well!
Yeah, it is important to remember that it takes a while to get used to Steem(it). It can often feel overwhelming for new users here, especially those who have never touched a cryptocurrency before.
I like Steemit better. Only been here 2 days but like it much better already. Facebook is one thing but I notice we still getting alot of love on Google search engine. Lets pray that continues. In my short period of time here I can tell you that for investors this is by far better than Facebook. I love this community so far and look to grow here.
We all need to keep posting links to Steem(it) from outside of the blockchain if we want this trend to continue ;)
Welcome by the way! I'm glad you like it better here than on Facebook!
Oh wow, this will most likely include Steem and Steemit.. This really sucks!
just saw your comment after posting the same thing. Facebook have battered ne for a whole month when it comes to posting steemit links across there
The problem is the users are desensitized to seeing the ads, and they no longer become useful. The good thing is that those who do see them, will hopefully see the Steem ads!
While I agree with the argument that many users are desensitized to adds, this is of course not completely true. Online ads is a billion dollar industry, so obviously the ones who are paying for the adds have to make a profit of it, or else they would not keep paying for it.
I can't argue with that.
Wow. Love the all the metrics with the ads. Hopefully these ads will lead to new users. Very sophisticated advertising. Above my head.
PLEASE FIX THE SIGN UP PROCESS!!!
Dont get me wrong, I love steemit and Dtube (check out my page). But my older sister signed up for steemit the same day as me, and she STILL hasn't had her account approved! We also checked out AnonSteem but they charge ~$50 for accounts there.
I know we're not the only ones having this problem. Please fix the sign ups! So when all these millions of Facebook users come, they can actually get in!
thumbs up if you agree
I disagree, it stops the influx of fake and bot accounts, truly represents what a social media platform should do here on steemit. In my opinion, Facebook will try and implement a similar thing but I can’t see it working, especially due to steemit being so popular already. More and more people will forget Facebook and come to steemit for their daily dose of news :)
I agree on your disagree, and sorry but not sorry if someone is caught in a few days o weeks on being registered, we don't want flood, and there's only 1 way to prevent it.
At least one of you gets its :’P lol
I've learnt not to be a crybaby about waiting in line for soemthing taht's worth :p
Now i just have to learn propper english xD
fake and bot accounts have existed since the beginning of social networks. And they have never stopped them from succeeding. Sure, a few bots might come through, but there are already bots on here now! (I know because I've seen one comment one of my vids and it actually said"I am a bot")
But by making it hard for legit users to sign up, you are giving them a sour taste in their mouth. Like I said, I got approved, but my sister hasn't. It's no fun using a social network when you can't even sign up your friends and family!
The masses dont care about bots and fake accounts. Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, etc get along just fine with them and most people don't care. Because it is a very small portion of accounts.
How can we expect to Youtubers to bring their audience over, if they can't even sign up for an account?
Well it limits it to a greater degree than Facebook and I love that about it, you can sit and point out all the negatives all day but that’s not going to develop and evolve the platform is it. How about looking at all the positive aspects and look long term, this time next year, dtube will be pulling in so many youtubers, specially those that had been demonetised recently. A decentralised social network/video blog community is just what the world needs, they jut don’t necessarily know that yet :)
I respectfully disagree with this statement. I think most spam/fake/bot accounts are made by users who already have a Steem account, and it is very easy for those of us who already have some SP to create a new account. The slow sign-up process is only harming new users who want to join the site with their first account.
They get flagged and will eventually have little reputation on here. And how’d you know it’s not someone just commenting on your post saying ‘I’m a bot’ to make you think That? It’s a reverse psychology thing, to make you think if you upvote their comments or follow them that you’re going to be able to generate income faster. I ignore all bot comments and often flag them
And then the main account can just undelegate their SP and create a new bot in 20 seconds. At this point it is extremely easy to create lots of spambots without any real problems, since you can just dump all the downvotes bots anyway.
You seem to have a lot more info than myself so I have decided to follow you :) thanks for replying! Have an awesome day and week!
Thank you! Have a nice week yourself, @cryptattoo!
Had to apply multiple times before it seemed to be working at all. Then had to wait a week. This alone can cause people to go elsewhere :-/
Yeah, it can be very problematic for users who don't have a lot of patience. But a fix is coming in the next hardfork, so at least that's good news :) The bad news is that no one knows when the next hardfork is planned..
I do agree. i understand a few days maybe 3 to 5 working days but my case was 2 weeks so straight away I thought that's going to create a retention problem. Most people nowadays would forget they even signed up to something that long after unless they were like really eager like myself. I have created capture pages for the people i invite so at least i can automate some educational emails in between the waiting period.
It will most likely be fixed when Hardfork 20 is released, but who knows when that will happen..
shift is happening for a while now
We don't need Facebook people on Steemit! 🤣
The people on Facebook need us!
I agree!! I find myself looking at FB less now, the only reason I go there now is for work (I work for a marketing agency).
At the times that I didnt still discover Steem yet,I spend too much time in facebook, but now that I'm on Steem ,I find here more interesting..
Hehe, isn't it nice to get paid for spending your time on social media for a change? ;)
@valth ..yes,it's really amazing that I can earn at social media..I've already followed you, hope you will follow me too so that I can have my great time here😊..
Giving an explanation is always better then talking numbers in my opinion, especially now with what happened with Bitconnect. Coming to a realization yourself about the money making potential of Steemit will have a much greater impact then telling them it might go from $5-$100.
When every single alt coin rep is saying the same thing, repeating it has a negative instead positive impact you are looking for. We are talking facebook here.
Gotta spin it. :D
Just my 0.01 SBD :D
True but there are people there who doesn't know that something better is out there where they can actually contribute , share and make money while doing it. :-)
Yeah, we need to let people know that there are good alternatives to Facebook and other social medias!
The structure of Steemit itself is what drives the cultural development here. "Facebook people" will behave differently in different environments like anyone else.
That's a very interesting way to look at it, and I hope you are right. I don't think traditional "Facebook behavior" will really be valuable here anyway, so people might have to change their behavior if they want to earn money.
Enabling a free market dynamic in social media is an interesting experiment, to say the least. The more we promote valued connectivity the more readily we evolve, IMHO.
Yeah, absolutely! I think we are seeing both the best and the worst of humans in this experiment :P
I think we should try to establish bridges to the facebook world. I have around 1200 followers on facebook. Right now it is not very attractive to follow me on steemit. And it is not easy to understand what steemit is all about. But if they read the good quality posts and get involved they will join. And more important : They start to produce own content and get more SP.
Wow, that's not a very nice thing to say. People who use Facebook are not lesser than anyone else. I believe that Steem should be open to everyone, even if they have spent a lot of time on Facebook in the past.
Can Facebook People become Steemit People?
Sure, Facebook people are not necessarily bad or stupid people; they are just people who prefer to use what they know instead of trying something new. If we help then with the change, then of course they can become Steemit people :)
agreed, we help people transition to better alternatives than Facebook, such as Steemit, Minds, Gab, and whatever happened to vid.me?
http://www.vid.me
I have no idea; I have never heard of vid.me before. But DTube is working pretty nice as an alternative to YouTube ;)
There was some rumors FB that they will not allow ads about crypto no more
Wow this is great, thanks for spreading awareness on steem
Will this be stopped by facebooks ban of Crypto ads?
I would assume that it will be :(
Dang. Well it had a good run while it did, I'm sure it brought in a few thousand people at least.
Yeah, it probably did! But I suppose Jerry can spend the money on other forms of advertisements on other websites to bring in new people. Sadly for the people of Facebook they will no longer be getting a better option delivered to their feed, but there's not much we can do about that anymore.
Hopefully word could spread organically, but yeah I agree with your points :(
We must all spread the word about Steemit, and we will have a huge organic growth! I think telling our friends, family and coworkers can be much better than buying ads in the long run ;)
Agreed! I'll be looking forward to sharing this platform when the time is right! :D
Thanks for all you're doing for us @jerrybanfield! So Inspiring!
