How I lost my Bitcoin Empire
Please allow me to introduce myself...
... I'm a man of wealth and taste.
Well, I'm working on the wealth part.
Hello all, I am Tony and it's a pleasure to be here on the steemit platform. Here is a short story about how I lost my Bitcoin Empire.
I first heard about Bitcoin one day while I was surfing around in places I shouldn't. I kept seeing ads saying, "I Accept Bitcoin" or something similar. And then I heard it mentioned in a TV show my now ex-wife was watching. After that I did some research on BTC and became obsessed. I dove deep into Bitcoin and it was a long long time before I ever came back up for air.
I was mining BTC but it ended up not being worth it on my pc . So I ended up trading it on exchanges. Did pretty good with that. Jumped into LTC mining and did very well with that. Then mined FTC, DMD and who knows all what else just out of simple curiosity and fun.
At one point I had handfull of BTC, a lot of LTC, a decent chunk of FTC, a bit of DMD and other various other coins. I was earning 1 BTC on average a month in trades. Things where good!
And then it wasn't.
The year of 2015 was... horrible. In and out of hospital. Surgery. Not to mention that I'm just plain stupid and I never plan ahead. It was December and I had no money for christmas. Faced with a huge financial crisis and the fact that I had no money to buy presents for my son, I did something that I now regret deeply. I sold all my BTC, thinking I'll easily get back into the game. Pros, my son had a great christmas. Cons, I had nothing to continue trading again.
But that's ok right? I still have my LTC right?
Nope. I lost my LTC before I sold all my BTC. I had a LTC wallet on my phone that I was using to play around with. It became corrupted during an attempt to back it up. No response from support. I think that was the phone I ended up bending in half.
Sold my FTC, started playing with it on the market that was fun.
My DMD? it's on a gaming rig that caught fire. Yes. My son texted me while I was at work, "Dad, RIP pc."
Sigh... fml. Honestly, I'm the dumbest person I know.
My Empire was on fire. The ashes falling all around me. Mocking me. And it was all my fault.
I took a break from the whole scene, got caught up with other things (basically played games, became a drunk) and basically slept through the next two years.
Enter Dec 15th, 2017.
I had a really interesting conversation with a buddy of mine about Forex. He told me about his success's and how he planned to scale up. I was inspired by his tale and decided to take a quick glance into BTC trading again. I'm not going to start trading again, I just wanna see. Just a quick peek.
So I went to coinbase to see how much BTC was running now a days. I started having chest pains. I couldn't believe was I was seeing. BTC was screaming toward twenty thousand dollars. Suddenly I thought about all the BTC I had sold and how much I would still have had I maintained the 1 BTC per month. I have grey in my beard now because of this. No joke.
I then had a thought. LTC. Don't do it Tony, Don't you see how much LTC is. I couldn't breath. I think I blacked out for a few days. I'm not sure. Finally though, I took a step back and said to myself. This isn't over. It's time to learn from my mistakes and rebuild my empire. I have til the end of this month to come up with a plan and start executing. I start my empire building Feb 1st.
In future posts I will be doing some number crunching and some theory crafting about I intend to rebuild my empire including creating my own ERC20 tokens(mostly for fun).
Until then, Thank you all very much and stay tuned!
