Broward County Sheriff’s Office Corruption & Scandals Part I

The recent school shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglass High School has drawn media attention to the Broward County area, specifically attention to Sheriff Israel’s department. His gun control advocacy seems to be a convenient distraction from his department’s inaction during the shooting, where Coral Springs PD entered the school prior to the 4 BSO officers stationed outside during the shooting.

Broward Sheriff scandals can be traced back to when Sheriff Israel ran for office, when a seventeen-year-old girl accused him of marital infidelity and paying for an abortion. These claims are unsubstantiated, and likely yet another example of morally-bankrupt political campaigning, especially common in Florida. In 2016, Sergeant Kreg Costa was arrested for twenty-nine counts related to child pornography, solicitation of a minor, and related offenses, while serving on the Internet Child Task Force division at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Upon being released on $250,000 bond, he committed suicide, leaving a note for his wife and for “God”. This case was not investigated until after over two years of complaints, including complaints of Sgt. Costa being discovered undressed in his office during the midnight shift, looking at pornography.
