Broken Hearted Writing Contest; HOPELESS ROMANTIC

My name is Cali and I worked at a business company. I’ve been to dates after dates but none of them stayed. This one time my friend set me up for a date and moments later the guy whom I was dating said “Sorry, I have a girlfriend” and that hit me hard. It was my first time to have a date and this happening makes it traumatic for me to stop dating.

Five months passed, I was doing good with my life, I was promoted at work and I’m having time to discover new things. Until my friend Liza said I need to unwind sometime. So she set me for a date. It was a movie date, everything was going fine, He was nice and all until this very moment when...

He said “Excuse me if you please, I had to go to the bathroom.”

I let him and I waited. The movie was about to end and he didn’t come back. So I went hone alone thinking what’s wrong with me.

It was February 13 and on February 14 I’ll be celebrating my birthday. That night at work, my friends are teasing me “Hey girl, do you have a date for tomorrow?” I just smiled. I know I built my walls higher but my friends wouldn’t stop telling me “Cali, you better go on dates now, you’re getting old!” and being the nice girl that I am, I agreed on my friends setting me for another date. It was a sporty date for we went for jogging. He was a nice guy, aside from the fact that he’s handsome, he is gentle as well. He has his priorities and goals. I don’t want to get my hopes high but I seen it in his eyes that he showed interest in me. So, we continued running...

And then, he told me “Hello! Girl! Go! Go! Go! Run! Run! Run!” Again, I was upset. He was gay all along. He wants boys and I’m just a friend in his eyes that shows sincerity for his boyfriend.

We reached the sunset and wave each other our goodbyes. I was so embarrassed about myself. I looked like a fool falling for some guy who’s inlove with another guy.

I tried giving my love life another chance, I went on a date with this guy. We have the same interests, likes, same personalities, we work on the same building.

After our date, we went to my car and we kissed. After that kiss, he left without saying a word. I tried texting him, he didn’t answer.

I was hurt and broken down to pieces. That was the time I promised myself to never be attached again. I don’t want to see myself in the same situation anymore. I don't want to believe in fairytales anymore.

That night, I cried myself to sleep.

I heard all the advices from my friends and relatives , and excuses from men I’ve dated. It all went deep and cut like wounds in my heart.

I grieved and then I realized that we aren’t really unloved or out of love, we are just looking for love in all the wrong places. At the end of the day, we won’t be out of love for our creator will never leave us and our family would always be there for us.
