For the U.S. it has come down to this basic necessity. We must participate more actively in the election of our "leaders." Not just at the federal level, but state and local as well. Not only must we elect people with proper values and morals, but we must actively keep then in check. We seem to have forgotten that our government is supposed to work for it's people, not the other way around. If we put someone in an office in good faith that they will uphold the republic, and they get out of line then it is pitchforks and torches time! That is the only way we as a populous can regain control of our government.

I think all governments should be treated like any new employee. When they're taken on they are subject to a 3 month trial period and if they don't live up to expectation they get booted.
At least that way the first 3 months would be spent fulfilling all election promises for fear of being fired.
