Criticism of Brazil's Minister of Finance
Montages with photos of the minister flooded social networks after the vote on the tax reform and the taxation of international purchases. Government says tax burden fell in 2023.
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, became the target of opponents of the federal government last week and started to be called "Taxad" in memes that flooded social networks.
The name is a reference to projects proposed by the government and voted by Congress to reduce the public deficit and reorganize the tax system in Brazil, such as tax reform and taxation of purchases of up to US$ 50 on international websites, such as Shein and Shopee. The nickname "Taxad" gained strength after the developments of the vote on the tax reform, which may increase the rates charged on products and services (although it reduces and even zeroes for others, such as food in the basic basket).
At least, each of the "reforms" (nickname for the increase it created) was implemented, of course, because there will also be a tax on the amount earned by Olympic athletes on earnings.
